How long will the Marcus Morris era last?

Here is the skinny on Marcus Morris.

He has 2 years left on his contract at roughly 5 mil a year.   

28 years old with a reputation defending Lebron well, and capable of huge scoring games. 

Since January 1st he's had scoring games of 37, 36, 7 games in the 20s and 2 more at 19.  So he is certainly capable of going off for a game entering the prime of his career.  Averaged 14 PPG the last 2 years, and would be great if at the very least he did that again.  Maybe Stevens can unlock another level in him.

The way I look at him is he is a necessity for this year with Hayward down, but when Hayward comes back and another year of Brown and Tatum maybe a luxury.

I don't really see him as part of the core when his contract is up at age 30 with Ainge re-signing him but who knows.    I'm not sure if we will have his bird rights then if someone can answer that. 

I see him more of an asset Ainge might try to flip for someone younger if not by this deadline then possibly next offseason, and it would be great if someone like Yabu could grow into his role (seems very unlikely now).   

With a million Marcus Smart contract threads I thought I would switch it up.   ;D

I'm not too worried about the salary squeeze. I've heard that the Celtics can't get anyone good to come to Boston, anyway.

I'm not too worried about the salary squeeze. I've heard that the Celtics can't get anyone good to come to Boston, anyway.

But if they can stay out of luxury tax for a longer period of time, they can avoid the worst of the penalties.

Yeah this is about where I am at.  He will be great while he is here.  If in these 2 years he proves himself to be absolutely invaluable to our title runs, DA will figure out a way to keep him.
He seems to be way outplaying his contract right now.  I was ehhh about him when we made the Avery trade because I loved AB.  His play has softened the blow a bit of losing Bradley for me.

I like Marcus Morris and he has been a nice addition - especially with Hayward out. I have also always loved his contract, but when Hayward comes back, he may be more of a luxury than a necessity. As an 8th or 9th man, can we convince a solid veteran or two to take the minimum while we are making title runs?

I see no reason to deal Morris before his contract is up, not unless a star player becomes available and his contract is needed to match. However, our salary cap is going to be out of control in a couple of years and there is no way we could re-sign him if he is looking for an increase in salary - which he certainly deserves.

He will be here for 2 years.  You don't get much for a 1 year rental and his production versus his cost is a steal.  He's a great bench player and adds a toughness to the team that we don't have a lot of.  He also is a decent starter and fills in for injured players.  No way he is traded unless he is a bad influence on the young guys.  He replaced Crowder on and off the court with his contract, leadership and production.  I'd have to say that after seeing him for 13 games he seems to be a better player the Crowder now and is actually cheaper this year and next.

At this rate wouldnt mind extending him 2-3 more years

Sign his brother also

If you can get both twins for 20 million a season, that would be a steal

This will be around the same time AL player option kicks in.

Better that the Celts dont pick it up, sign him to another hefty extension

i thought the same thing. Would be interesting to see the twins get reunited.

When his bargain contract ends. Mook will be asking for over twice what he's getting paid now (and deservedly so). Since the Celtics will have to re-sign Kyrie, still pay Hayward and Horford, possibly pay Smart and/or Rozier, and have to think about what to do with Tatum's and Brown's future contracts, Danny probably won't give much thought to re-signing Morris. Plus I'm pretty sure the Celtics are hoping Semi/Yabu will be ready to take his minutes when his contract is up.

I didn't actually believe people though Morris was gonna be a mainstay here...

Seems like he was another Jae Crowder, albeit slightly better in that sense of he's less egregious, and more of a team-player.

His contract is team-friendly. So I seriously doubted him staying here, but he may stay if Ainge believes Rozier/Smart is out of his price range.
