The Raptors went all in with trades for Ibaka and  P.J. Tucker. Many on this very board where saying how Danny missed the boat on these two guys. Toronto gave up assets for both and where swept out of the playoffs by The Cavs . Tucker is already on his way to the Rockets and Ibaka will be a surprise if he comes back. Tronto went all in for an end of season run that got them nowhere and it may end up being the beginning of The Raptors rebuild. I liked the way Danny handled this at the time and it looks way better in hindsight...

It was the right move for them and for us. They should try to bring Ibaka and Lowry back and go for it for a year or two. We on the other hand should be looking to contend without giving cup our future. Our true window begins in 2019-20

"All in"? They gave up the 25th pick, two seconds, and Terrence Ross. You think that's going to cripple their franchise?

I can see not wanting to trade "building block" pieces, but for role players and late #1s, the risk is pretty minimal.

That was their "all in", indeed. Not every team does have the enormous collection of assets the Celtics possess.

At the time I was upset because I thought those two guys could really help with defending LeBron (Tucker) and bolstering the frontcourt (Ibaka).  In retrospect, those moves might have helped win an extra game or two against Cleveland at most but based on Toronto's performance maybe not moved the needle at all.

What I find interesting is they are having problems justifying paying for all of them again. Toronto may take a step back this year.

And for Toronto it was understandable, with the prospect of losing Lowry on the horizon.

Of course, as it was undestandable for us to stand pat, because the Celtics are on the rise for the next years.

Where have you read that Ibaka will be a surprise if he comes back because I've been reading the exact opposite from every site.  This is straight off of Hoops Rumors yesterday.

"A report earlier today suggested that the Raptors weren’t overly confident about their chances of retaining Tucker, but remained optimistic about bringing back Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka."

It may surprise you to find out but a lot of success in life, both personally and professionally, is determined by the smaller choices, rather than the big "all or nothing" gambles.

The trades were not an unreasonable move for Toronto to make, given the state of their franchise.  But it didn't work and now there will be a cost.  Sometimes five little mistakes can be worse than one big mistake.

That's a pretty good portion of their tradeable assets.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I think the idea is that Toronto clearly has ZERO chance of contending as currently constructed, so why wouldn't Ibaka...

A.  Take more money from another team?  The Raptors will be over the cap if they resign Lowry and have $80+ a year committed to him, DeRozen, Valanciunas and DeMarre Carrol.  Are they really going to match is some team offers Ibaka $19 mil a year?

B.  Take less money for at least a chance to win a ring?  If we get Hayward and offer Ibaka an MLE deal with an opt-out after one year, does the automatically turn it down?

Toronto is looking like a low seed in the East behind Cleveland, Boston, Washington and Milwaukee

East is so bad they will get in by default

Ibaka didn't even look to leave, where were you getting it would be a surprise if he returned from?    Literally every report had him returning since the end of the season.  Now he's back in Toronto on a 3 year contract as was expected by every analyst.
