No trade coming.  Extending a qualifying offer does not allow him to be traded any more than not extending one.  (Which is not at all unless he agrees to a sign-and-trade.)

Doesn't mean anything. If they need the space, they can rescind the offer. Klynyk will get much better offers on the market so there's basically 0 risk he accepts.

but can he accept it immediately and limit our options ?

Yes, but if Olynyk wants to be in Boston so much that he accepts a 1-year deal for $4.1 million, rather than waiting a few days and getting a multi-year deal with an average salary probably at least 3 times that amount, he's welcome to stay.

Exactly. It's just a procedural formality.

Obviously not going to happen.  However let's say it did and the stars aligned where we could sign Hayward and trade for PG.  By accepting the QO, we could only trade KO if he consented to be traded, right?  Could we waive KO immediately and stretch his salary?

We could stretch him.  He would most certainly be claimed off waivers, however ($4.1 million 1-year deal and Bird rights -- who's going to turn down claiming that?) Even the Cavs have a trade exception large enough to claim him.  So ultimately he'd have zero impact on our cap.  He could not be traded until Jan 15th even with his permission.

Not really just a formality. Without offering, he is basically gone.  So this at least means that Boston wants to retain him on the roster if there is a chance to.

I wouldn't write that off completely.

It's only not a formality if you didn't believe that Ainge always intended to extend the QO.  Under the most recent CBA, the only player I can think of who didn't receive a QO was Luigi Datome -- for Ainge, it's pretty much been a formality.

KO's game 7 vs Washington will be very memorable. Getting to the ECF was an accomplishment for this team.

I think some team will want to pay him. I hope Danny passes on the Big Goofy. I'd like my memory of him to be appreciative rather than frustrated by a bunch of bad defensive plays and missed layups on a healthy contract.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Probably to save face... also to test the upper limit of his offers.

This Bum, by the way, almost singlehandedly won game 7 of the EC semis... cool ya jets.
