The more I think about it, the more I believe Ainge has to Godfather offer the Pelicans.

The #3, the lakers/sixers/kings pick, the grizzlies pick, our 2018, Crowder, Bradley.

Thomas
Smart
Hayward
Horford
Davis

The problem is that the point of the Pelicans taking on all those picks would be to end up with a player like AD.
Why would they trade AD for all that when he's under contract long term and they just signed Cousins?
If it does happen it will be closer to the deadline, when the Pelicans suck, and Cousins is getting stupid technicals, and the Pelicans decide enough is enough and blow it up. Will Danny wait that long?

Nope. It has to be now. These things rarely happen in Feb. And you know what? We're still gonna have BKN 18 pick.

It's not happening now, the Pels have gone all in to try and get him to stay. You could throw all the picks at them and they wouldn't bite because it wouldn't make any sense.

In Feb or next summer it may well make sense if things have gone down the toilet, which I presume is what Ainge is counting on.

Folks are gonna be really disappointed around here when Ainge trades the #3, Amir and Zeller for Carmelo Anthony...  just sayin

It'll hurt, teeth will gnash, goodbye posts will be signed....but ya know what?

We'll be better than last year and odds on favorites to take the East.

With two top five picks still coming down the pike.

I just feel like, why else did we sign a bargain big today?  Keeping Horford means trading the other bigs, because including Jae or AB or any of the other guards, along with that pick, becomes an overpay for just about every star out there....except Melo.

Carmelo at this age and point in career is not worth a #3.
I agree, but I think you could create a package with the Knicks in which NY gets 3 and Boston gets Anthony.  Like say if NY sent 8 back to Boston.  I'd probably even give them Rozier in that scenario.  Maybe you could even get O'Quinn

You could probably get Carmelo by just absorbing his contract into our cap space.  Maybe throw in a late first like the Boston 2018 pick.  Giving up a top 3 pick (especially in what Ainge considers to be a 4 person draft) for a has-been is a horrible deal
I'm bitter.

agreed.  I wouldn't give NY the #3 for Melo even if combined with #8 and O'Quinn (who I like as a solid bench big man).  Melo at this point may be better suited as a 6th man to be instant offense off the bench.

if Danny makes a deal (which I wouldn't be surprised by), I think it'll either be to flip with Phx to pick up yet another future first and only done provided the player he wants is still on the board and Phx doesn't want him OR a trade with Sac for #5 and one of WCS/Skal/#10 and that's only if he knows Phx and Sac won't pick his guy.

A lot will depend on what he thinks he can accomplish in free agency and the need to get max money available --> the Phx deal with a future first would be the best option for that as it requires less rookie cap money for #4 and he wouldn't be taking in any more salary obligations for this year.  he'd have to have an under-the-table agreement from either Hayward or Griffin that they'll be signing though.

And he couldn't have offered it with this year's #1? LOL.

Lot of people smoking the good stuff when it comes to AD. When you all come down from your high reality is going to be a bummer for you. NO WAY IN HELL they are trading AD right now. He is young, has many years left on his contract and they have plenty of time to build around him. Add to that they still have to let the AD/Boogie experiment fail for a a year.

PIPE DREAM!

KP & Melo for some picks and and players would be more realistic.

Certainly possible, but if you make a trade using salary you have on the team next year anyway, it gives you more room to add other players (not max, but still others).

I wouldn't trade for Anthony until after Boston strikes out in free agency, but I do think there is value in acquiring him and that he would help the team a great deal (and since he isn't a long term contract, he doesn't affect future tax issues).  I really like O'Quinn I'd want him in any trade acquiring Anthony.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
