Eh, I want Tatum, and I don't think he falls to them at 5.

However, if Tatum would fall to 5, give me Skal and 5 for 3 and it's a deal! Everyone was down on Skal in last year's draft, but I was really hoping we could steal him at 16.

He had a semi-breakout in Sacramento after Cousins was traded. I'd love him here as our long-term 4.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

You're essentially guaranteed one of Jackson/Tatum/Isaac at 5 so this makes sense in theory. Would make clearing max space harder though.

Fultz and Ball were really the guys I thought were on a separate tier from the next 7 or so guys, so I was advocating trading down back before the lottery gave us #1. However, I think that if they really believe in Jackson they should just take him. The 5 and 10 would definitely get us two nice players though, so it's tough. One potential issue is, if we draft two players you also have to start wondering about how all these guys are going to play the next few years, and also it's not good to have all these contract coming off the books at the same time. Remember, we also have Zizic definitely coming this year.

I think the 10 spot would be a great place to take a guy like Collins or if he's not there, take a chance on Kennard or Anunoby or Giles.

Good discussion so far and great input by all.

Here's a questions... how does potentailly getting two lottery picks this year (hypothetically 5 and 10) effect Guerschon Yabusele and Ante Zizic at all?

Do you think it makes sense to bring in 4 rookies?

I'm not so sure that's a guarantee.  Ball would need to be picked and he seems to be the one everyone is NOT talking about taking.  I wouldn't be surprised if Ball is the one that drops to 5 (or lower).

it would actually make clearing cap space a bit easier with #5 getting a lesser contract than #3 but then it does depend on what else Sac sends us in the deal.  Skal's deal I think would be less than the #10 but I can't see Sac giving him up.

getting knots in my stomach waiting for the final play to be made on these picks.  probably won't happen until after the draft.  that said, if Isaac is the guy, I could see Danny making the deal for #5 and possibly future pick (if Sac has one to give which I'm not sure they do with one owed to Philly in 2019)

This is possible but we only have so many roster slots.

I think Jackson-Tatum-Isaac going 2-3-4 is highly unlikely, and if so I'm fine with Ball as the consolation prize. If you assume that all four of these guys are roughly similar in value (which, to be honest, I don't think the Celtics FO does) then there's no reason not to trade down. Cap space is the issue though.

Seems to me Danny is trying to get a bunch of rookie contracts that can complement a super team.

If you are paying PG13, Horford, Hayward and IT, you are going to need cheap contracts around them that can contribute.

Steps in

Jaylen Brown
Rosier
Zicic
Yabu
Nader
#10,(from Sac)
Brk 18
LA/ Sac pick

Yea Danny knows what he's doing ;)

This is in reference to Butler, not to trading down.

re: trading down.

May be nuts but, if the medical records check out, I'd take a shot at Giles at 10.

I want a kings ransom for That #3 pick. Kings don't have much of value unless they'll give us many future picks

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
This has to wait until draft night after we see who PHX takes at 4. As of now, it is very possible they take Fox and that would leave Tatum at 5.

The report seems a little ridiculous, though. We are acquiring 5 and 10, but giving up 3 and one of Crowder/Smart - Pah-lease.

If Tatum is there, I say do the deal with only the 3 for 5 and 10 and take Tatum and Giles. If we can get Tatum and Skal, I would be on board with that, too.
