only way they can get him is either trading Love or Kyrie, based on Love's performance, I think Love might be traded

actually I also think Tristan Thompson must be traded as well, GM LeBron gave JR and Thompson a huge deal, that team cannot be held together past next season if they don't make the move now

They'd have to find a third party for it to work. They're not trading Kyrie, so it'd have to be Love. But Indy has no interest in Love, so he'd have to be shopped off to a third destination who has some other assets for Indy.

Sure. But what's the point of getting Love if we're helping Cleveland get George in the process?

I think Love is a pretty terrific fit at 4 for us otherwise, though.

I'm not interested in helping the Cavs get better.  Plus, then we'd be faced with Love having to defend one of LeBron or PG, that's untenable.

Boston would be much better served just going after PG ourselves.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
So we'd be sending the equivalent of what would be required for Paul George, but only receiving Love? I don't like the sounds of that, at all.

Also, if we want to sign Hayward, then we will need to match salaries.

I don't mind helping CLE with the expectation that both he and George would bounce for LA after another whipping by the hands of GS next year.

Pritchard is making the rounds around the league, from what we're told. Cavs doing due diligence.

Pacers president/basketball ops Kevin Pritchard has made obligatory calls & has chatted with Cavs re: Paul George:

Doesn't seem too serious at the moment.

I still don't figure George to be one to play WITH Lebron instead of against him, though this GS superteam might have changed things. KD ruining the whole league!

I guess for the idea that we get Love at 3 more years at a pretty good rate while Lebron and Paul George are rumored to leave Cavs after one anyway. Its a gamble, cause if they stay we clearly get stuck behind them.

Maybe this scenario would work.

Step 1. Trade Crowder(might still have to trade someone like Jackson as well) for future pick to create the max cap space.

Step 2. Sign Hayward

Step 3. S&T KO(3 non premium picks ours next year, Memphis, Clippers) to Indiana. Love to Boston. George to Cleveland.

Ha just spitballing an idea. I honestly would not include any of our prime picks for Love if I can help it.

4-way deal:

Cleveland gets George.
Indiana gets Boston 2018, Memphis 2019, Clippers 2019
New Orleans gets Love, Philly 2017, Brooklyn 2018, Lakers 2018 (SAC 2019).
Boston gets Anthony Davis.

(Trade made in July since we otherwise fail the Stepian rule).

Geesh, I know he's worth it, but that's a TON to give up to get AD. You mortgage your whole future on AD.

And is a lineup of IT, AB, Crowder, AD, and Horford with Rozier, Smart, Brown, KO, etc. even going to be enough to get past a Cavs team with George, let alone GS? I'm not sure.

  • GOT IT!!!
I'd be fine with helping Cleveland get George if the C's get Love out of the deal. Much better than them giving up peanuts and keeping Love which I fear will happen.

Yeah, I think that lineup gets through the Cavs, and it would be very challenging for Golden State, since it could actually play inside and out.

It's unquestionably mortgaging the future on AD, but given our team's construction, can you think of any single player better to mortgage it on?  We still have guys like Zizic and Yabusele coming up as rookies the next couple years, not to mention Brown who's quite young.  Rather than being a contender trying to balance minutes for 2-3 1st rounders every yeah, we'd do it for one 1st rounders a year, which is much more normal.

I'd probably let Olynyk walk and extend Bradley this summer.  The team would probably be able to afford to keep both IT and Smart going forward as well.

AD makes this team the favorite in the East.
