One of the most important questions to answer for the Celtics, since a lot of decisions in the off-season and next year will be based upon the answer to this question. I put down the options in order of age, so no bias here.

Thomas-Fultz back court with Fultz playing SG more (he's more than capable - even he believes he can).

Rozier as a solid bench option.

I'll admit idk who stays out of Bradley/Smart (real tough call), but either one has potential to be a great 6th/7th man for a contending team (aka US starting in the next 2-3 years). Maybe they can keep both though with Rozier being traded for another piece/need ;D

I'm REALLY hoping Isaiah can agree to some "Westbrook-like extension" (around 3/87M, option 3rd year), and I don't really think, EVEN THOUGH HE DESERVES IT, any other team would give him a 4-year max, and the C's hesitate on the 5-year supermax as well.

A lot also depends on how Fultz's defense progresses. If he is average (and slightly better than Harden - his ceiling player on most mocks), that's a stud and it works out very well!

Fultz is a flex guard so I imagine you put anyone next to him and he does well as well as makes those around him better.


With IT: it'll be a offensive show

With smart: smart will be better offensively

With ab: all around good pair

Longest back-court in the NBA:
PG: Fultz
SG: Jaylen Brown
They would suffocate opposing teams defensively and can rotate 1-3 and 1-4.

Jaylen is actually shorter than Jimmy Butler and Derozan(both SG's) but he possesses elite length(7' wingspan and 8'8'' standing reach), size, and strength...while maintaining a lean physique with only 5.6% bf. I only mention this because there is a pattern of people that think Jaylen is a SF and was drafted as a SF(not a SG that can play SF due to length, size, and ability)

IMO it should be a 180. The only knocks on his game are intertwined with how bad his team and coach were. He conserved energy on defense because he was forced to go 1 on 5 offensively. Lonzo and Fox had good teams with good coaches. They also each have 2-3 teammates goin in the 1st round/lottery.

Hayward and Butler were both SGs until this season (contrary to public perception), so I think Brown should be SG until he transitions to SF in his late 20s.  Fultz /  Brown / Hayward will be devestating in 3 years.  I'd really like to draft Doncic next year and then Fultz / Doncic / Brown could be legendary

Marcus Smart on a bargain contract (for example $50m/4yr no options) would be ideal. He's a difficult fit on many rosters, so he might not get an offer for his true value in RFA. If we can cement a solid starting backcourt of Smart + Fultz at ~$20m combined, with Crowder playing the Iguodala role for a bargain as well, it would enable us to afford both Hayward + Horford while maintaining depth all around. Three to four stars plus multiple premier roleplayers would be a contender in 2020.

Fultz-Bradley. I think Fultz is the ball handler/primary scorer and Bradley is the 3 & D. Houston does this with Harden and Beverley.

Smart and Rozier could fit there too if they become starter quality players.

Don't agree that Brown has "more potential as SG than SF" - he's a wing; Ainge said the Celtics' brass were as impressed by his versatility as much as anything else.

We might also pay attention when Brad says that he's not using the old 1-5 designations anymore.

Certainly, we saw lineups with Jaylen guarding the smaller wing and Crowder guarding the larger. Brown can take advantage of his size in driving on smaller players.  But he also has a quickness advantage on larger ones. And he can guard both.

Jaylen's handle is terrible, his ceiling on offense is very shaky. Smart is a 3rd guard player at best.

Thomas all day, his talent is just leagues better than these offensively challenged kids. I think Jaylen on his best day could be a very poor man's Butler, but that handle is just awful.
