If the lottery is rigged - IF - I think that works in our favor this year.

My "rigged prediction":

Boston #1
LA #2
Phoenix #3

If the fix is in,IMO the league's top objective would be to give the Lakers at top-3 pick so that they keep this year's and the 2019 picks, and have a shot at Ball as well.

Having us #1 insures that there will be plenty of drama leading up to the draft - does Ball scorn the C's and refuse to work out for them? Does Ainge draft Ball anyways just to spite LA, or does he draft Fultz and create a long-term rivalry between the two players?

Keeping Boston at #1 and Phoenix at #3 also means the draft order is relatively unchanged, which makes it appear more legitimate. Phoenix might be annoyed, but they won't be THAT mad if they drop a slot.

Boston on the other hand has had terrible luck in the lottery and is due for a break. It also gives us more leverage to trade the pick for a superstar to become a contender. The league needs more good teams to challenge the Warriors and Cavs, and the big-market C's would be a nice addition to the fold.

So it works for everybody!

About rigging of pong pong balls, it can be done--was done years ago in the PA lottery.
But you wonder if the owners would allow it.

I trust Silver more than Stern. Stern is suspected of rigging the lottery so the Knicks could get Ewing. Something about wrinkled envelope in the draw. Then Orlando won it two years in a row, picking Shaq and Penny. Orlando was Stern's pet franchise, he picked especially for TV market growth in Florida. Then the Cavs come out of nowhere to win it when James signed with them.

That the Celts won it this year suggests Silver is a straight shooter. Hi Yo  Silver!

Yep, I'm DROOLING over the chance to draft a prospect with his combination of shooting, playmaking, size, athleticism, and two-way potential.

Fultz literally has the potential to be as good offensively as Lillard/Curry while being much better than both of them defensively with his size and length.

LA is going to be mid- to-late lottery next year. They sat their best players much of last year to keep their pick. Without that incentive, and with another year of player development, they'll merely be bad instead of godawful.

Who are these best players they sat?  Lou Williams was their best player and they traded him.  Nick Young was probably next best and they'll probably lose him in free agency.  They were the worst defensive team in the league and there is no reason to believe they won't be again.  Especially if they draft Ball and start him next to Russell.  They are looking towards 2018 free agency so they aren't going to tie up their cap space in 2nd tier free agents.  To get out of the bottom 5, several of their young players are going to have to show major improvement which is unlikely or they'd need to trade some of them off to get a star.
