I'd super love a Drummond trade. High IQ players will have a role no matter what because they know how to play the game. Plus, Drummond is really quick on his feet for a big guy so our "switching defense" would likely be much enhanced.

I'm all in on Drummond!    Young, 7 feet and rebounds.   

Pull the trigger.   Our team has played great basketball while missing parts due to injury at times.   

Send out the Boston 2018 1st, Memphis 1st and Clippers 1st.    Amir, Zeller.    And cross your fingers.   

Maybe we can find a 3rd team to take Zeller and one of those first for a player Detriot likes more.   


22 million for 5 years is a lot.   But he's a unicorn.   To bad he can't hit his free throws.

I don't think you guys realize how bad of a defender Andre Drummond is (yes, I'm aware of his DRTG). He's quite the athletic specimen, so there's hope that he can improve, but SVG is a great coach and has gotten nothing out of Drummond.

One really nice thing about Drummond is that he's both young and very good, so he doesn't tip the scales on win now vs later, the way trading for someone like Melo would. We retain flexibility.

And Stein says Drummond IS being shopped but more to "gauge interest"

Sort of like another center two-three days ago...

How good is Drummond, really?

He's an amazing rebounder, but his finishing numbers are poor.  Some of that is shot selection / usage.  He's Tyson Chandler in the restricted area; he can't score from anywhere else.

He can't shoot free throws at all.  He doesn't get to the line very much for a player of his size and skillset.

Defensively, his steals are good, his block rate adequate.  I've heard mixed things about what the numbers say about his defensive impact as a rim protector.

Realistically he's just a "kinda okay" player for now.  Similar to Deandre Jordan in that he's strictly an athletic pick/roll guy (can't shoot, can't post up) but doesn't have the intelligence and court vision that makes Deandre amazing on defense.  The hope is that he's going to learn eventually but that hasn't been the case so far.

I'd say he's a net neutral on offense, a net neutral on defense, but does improve your rebounding by a lot.

Would be really upset if we gave up any of the Nets pick+Bradley+Crowder for Melo alone...

He's an outstanding rebounder, bad defender, and bad offensive player with tremendous potential due to his athletic ability and youth. Eventually, he could be a slightly enhanced DeAndre, which is a ridiculously good player, but people need to realize that that is not who he is today.
