So we give them 3 chances at a B+(maybe A) level player for their own, sole B+ player and call that a championship roster?

I don't think anyone in this thread has said anything of the sort.

If we can get Butler with AB+non Nets pick i will do it
Otherwise i will rather draft our own stars for next decade

I find speculating pointless, especially when it's the same two players dissected every time. But the only deal for Butler that makes sense is Bradley, Zeller and the Brooklyn pick. Zeller is only in there to match salaries. If we are going all-in with Isaiah, it might be a good idea to pair him with tall shooting guards. Butler is worth more than both Bradley and the Brooklyn pick, but not the two put together. The draft as crapshoot makes it tough to put these kind of deals together. Might as well say if it happens, it happens, otherwise this is stupid. Cousins would have to cost a lot more. I'd say both Nets picks, one of our non-scrub players and then the Amirs and Zellers so ESPN approves it.

Highly doubt it gets done without any BKN Pick.

It doesn't get done without a Bkn pick.

Just give them AB, Rozier, Bkn 18', & Boston 18' & call it a day.

We don't need those 2018 picks when we come back next year with Butler, Fultz, & Zizic.

I said this on the "marcus crazy defense..." thread but here it is with more detail:

After the way they have played lately, I've decided that the C's should not make a major deal, that is, one to bring in Cousins, Butler, Melo etc.

This team looks good now and there's a lot of promise for the future with Smart, Brown and Nets picks.  Why give that up, even for a "superstar" who may or may not put them over the top?  GS is not fading anytime soon.

So my "stay the course" idea starts with keeping this core:
Horford, IT, Crowder, Smart, Bradley, Brown

Sorry, Terry Rozier and Kelly Olynyk, but you have to give up something to get something so these guys are my sacrificial lambs.  You also have Zeller and Amir and the youth corps (Mickey, Yabu, Zizic, D-Jax) as decent chips to put together a deal for a rebounding big.  I am not going to suggest a specific trade, but we saw several bigs get traded today (M. Plumlee, Hibbert, Hawes).  Most likely, the deal will not require using all these chips.

I am enjoying watching this team, yet I am also excited about Jaylen Brown and the Nets picks.  The next championship may come with Horford clearly in decline or he may not be here at all.  I am OK with that.  I just think that a more minor move to shore up the frontcourt, while keep the future very bright, is the way to go.

I'm with you on the patient approach. Don't trade the picks!

I would love to sign Millsap to a similar deal that Horford gets.

I want to draft Fultz.

I want to eventually resign IT, which prob. means that we have to pass on Bradley. Hopefully Marcus can fill that void.

I like this lineup for next year:

Thomas
Bradley
Crowder
Horford
Millsap

Fultz
Smart
Brown
Mickey/Yabu
Zizic/Bogut/similar veteran big

I know I listed Millsap as an option.. but I'm just not feeling like adding Millsap because then we are literally the new ATL Hawks. I know, sort of a random thought, but still...

And I would trade the BKN picks only for a guy like Cousins/Davis, but yeah they are pipe dreams so agree, keep the picks!
I have seen several posters making the statement that signing Millsap just makes us the new Hawks. I couldn't disagree more. On that Hawks team Millsap and/or Horford were the #1 scoring option. Neither would be here. Also, the Celtics would have better overall two way players on the wing in Bradley and Crowder than anything the Hawks had. I think besides Horford and Millsap the Celtics are a much better team overall than what those Millsap-Horford Hawk teams had.

I think Millsap will honestly be the most realistic option this summer.

Noel, Hayward, Griffin likely staying put.

Then it's down to Millsap/Ibaka, and I'm sure Horford will recruit Millsap as well.

I don't think there's a need to deal for a "star" and sacrifice starting players and those Nets picks. Just plug the hole up front with a rebounder. Nurkic might do, and they have more than enough picks to get him. He would also provide some added offense. That would make them competitive enough before the draft.

In the end, though, it depends on what Ainge thinks, not the media, and the offers out there before the deadline. I haven't heard him say what he's looking for, but there does appear to be a consensus--that a rebounder/rim protector should be added. And that can probably be done at a modest cost. I'd be looking for that to happen soon.

Keep the drafts picks.  Don't even use them on draft day, just keep them. After a few more years the interest accumulated by these picks will be colossal!

I don't know, with the 2018 pick I like Mohammed Bammba and Luka Doncic.  I like Butler and he's an all star for sure but even with a pretty stacked Bulls team he couldn't get passed Lebron.  I am really pumped looking st Bammba's hilights and Doncic is still 17 (18 this month) starting for Real Madrid.  I've actually watched Doncic play and I am super impressed.   I know I can't predict they'll end up better than Butler but I'd rather take a chance on a super star that can put us over the top over a guy we already know that as good as he is, he's not good enough to beat Lebron.

Trade for Monroe and Melo, or Ibaka and Melo.

Happy with either of those two combinations danny - let's get it done!!

I dont get how that deal makes sense - are we starting Green at SG?

We need what Bradley brings,  plus he's a great locker room but and the longest tenured Celtic.  He had worked his butt of since the day he got drafted here,  he deserves to stay and im not sure Butler at the SG is what is like.

Trade crowder instead,  it makes way more sense of its Butler were trading for, and he already told the fans that need have no hesitation walking to another team.   So let him go.

Butler would play SG.

The reason AB is preferable in a trade is because his contract will be coming up for renewal soon and he's gonna need a big pay raise into that 20m+ salary area whereas Crowder is locked up for longer at relatively cheap dollars.
