I don't want to trade 3 key Celts and Nets picks for Butler, but I would consider IT (I know half of the readers will take great offense to this notion, but there may be some merit).

Technically it would be Butler for IT and Zeller to make the salaries fit (you could even throw in D Jackson if you wanted to have more $ go out).  This would best be done after this season is over and we have drafted Fultz or Ball.

Both guys are 27.  IT's contract is up July 2018, Jimmy's runs til July 2019, then his player option kicks in.

Jimmy's money this year and next two is:  17,552,209   18,696,918    19,841,624

Jimmy's a great two way player who would fit well with our lunch pail guys

Potential lineup:

MS   M Fultz or L Ball

AB   J Brown   TR

J Butler   J Brown

JC    resign one of KO or JJ

AH   AZ

Yes there is some redundancy in the wing positions.  I have Crowder starting at the four, but of course he would see some time at the three (not sure Brad even uses 1 thru 5 paradigm).

Perhaps AB could be traded at some point down the road for a four or five big guy.

One negative takeaway:  By bringing in Butler, there is no room for a max free agent signing in the summer.  But there would be room to bring back JJ or KO.

Brad says ideally you want to play fast and big.  Plenty of length (& defense) in this lineup:

Marcus 6  4"
Butler   6  7"
Crowder  6  6"
KO   7  0"   or JJ   6  10"
AH   6  10"   AZ  6  11"

I don't dislike IT, I'm just drawn to two-way players.

I wouldn't do that trade.

From the sound of things in Chicago, Butler struggles with the leadership aspects of being a star.   With IT and Horford, that role is already filled for Butler.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
And pay due to tell...

Why would Chicago agree to this trade?

I'd do it but I think I'm in the minority.  only blowback of note would be the C's moving out the 'face of the franchise' only a few years out from moving PP and KG.  wouldn't stop me though

I understand the purpose of the deal, but I should look for other options than a wing (I mean, a very good big body) if we trade IT.

Also, it might be important to do it after free agency. Making that deal would prevent us from signing big names such as Hayward or Millsap.

My alternative plan would be trading IT, Jae and picks for a F-C star, if possible. Of course, after signing Hayward.

IT-Jae-Yabu's rights-BOS 18-LAC 19 (fillers, if needed) for Cousins. New rotation:

Smart (Fultz/Ball)
Bradley (Brown)
Hayward (Nader)
Horford (Olynyk if possible, Jerebko if not)
Cousins (Zizic)

IT is averaging 29.4 PPG (#2 best scorer in the LEAGUE). Big reason this team is 30-18.

But yeah lets trade him instead of trying to build with him. This looks like a lateral move imo (like Love-for-Melo did last week).

There's literally ZERO chance either side agrees to this.

We can trade for Butler later in the summer, like we did with KG.

Ιn the meantime
draft a PG (let's say Ball)
sign Millsap in free agency (2 or 3-year max)

next year's starting 5

Ball / Smart
Bradley
Butler
Millsap
Horford

Crowder 6th man

I love this trade! In fact, I would even do it before the deadline.

IT+Amir for Butler
(start Olynyk or JJ at the 4)

I want Thomas to be on the Celtics while we see how good he can become.  I understand selling high but man, the guy is far better than he was like a month ago.  So efficient on offense and he has been passing much better the last couple of weeks.  It would be a difficult decision to trade him for Butler, especially considering Butler is a leader on the Bulls and they are in disarray,  while Thomas is a leader on the Celtics and the chemistry is great personality wise.

Poor IT....smh. Sad, just sad.  He needs to pull a Russell Crowe the next time he scores 50 and drops 10 dimes, (which can happen any given game)

there is no point in acquiring Butler if you trade Thomas to do it.

Taking off my green goggles, I don't see Chicago even considering this.

Probably he meant that by keeping the brooklyn pick we would get a franchise pg in Fultz, Ball, Smith...as a replacement for IT but i still think Butler for IT won't happen, neither side will be happy

Sure I understand the premise and there is no point in acquiring Butler for Thomas because Butler is a win now move and the rookie won't be a win now player.

That's why we have Smart as well. The rookie may come off the bench, just like Brown is doing this season.
