For years there was a surplus of bigs throughout our league, which was highlighted in the mid 80's. Between 1983-88 the following PF's/C's were drafted: Sampson, Olajuwon, Barkley, Ewing, Malone, Daugherty, and Robinson. While Sampson (4x all-star) and Daugherty (5x all-star) didn't have the impact the others did as a result of injuries, they were both very big men.
So now fast forward to 2012, where Davis and Drummond are drafted. In 2013, Gobert gets drafted late in the draft. Then in 2014,we have the talented and injury riddled Embiid. 2015 had Towns and Porzingis. 2016 is still yet to be determined, but there are a few young bigs that could develop into great players. 2017 has Giles, 2018 has Ayton, and 2019 has Bagley (who plays at 9pm tonight on ESPN 2).
Point is that we could potentially be headed to another Golden Age of Big Men, which might in fact off-set the stranglehold that smaller guards and wings seem to have on the league.
