Ever since we've won banner 17 back in 2008, Celtics can't seems catch a break with injuries with their key players, especially during the playoffs.

2009 - Lost KG for the rest of the season season
2010 - Lost Perk in the rest of crucial NBA finals
2011 - Lost Shaq and Rondo in the playoffs
2012 - Lost Jeff Green for whole season and Bradley in the playoffs
2013 - Lost Rondo, Sullinger and Barbosa for the rest of the season
2014 - Missed Rondo for the earlier half of season, Faverani cut due to injuries.
2015 - Barely healthy with Sullinger still recovering from his foot injury
2016 - Lost Bradley, Olynyk in the playoffs. Crowder only playing 50%

Boston sports just can't catch a break.

And I'm talking about Gronkowski and Chris Hogan. But yeah, just tough luck.

Who got it worse over the last 9 years, then?

The only one that really mattered was 2009... rest of it is just typical stuff every team goes through.   2009 stung because we were the favorite and KG went down.  That sucked.  So right off the bat, the 2012 Chicago Bulls are at worst our equal (best team in the league got knocked off in the first round thanks to Rose's injury).  The Cavs missing Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in the Finals two years ago are our equal.  Several other teams have had painful injuries that have set them back.

I agree with most of this but I think Perkins' injury in 2010 mattered very much as well considering the timing.  Having to replace a starter in game 6 of the finals is huge.  At least if it happens during the season the players and coaches can tinker and adjust to the different lineup.  I don't care that he wasn't even close to being one of the team's top players, he had a very defined role on that team and it was sorely missed in game 7 with all the offensive rebounds that were given up (and Rasheed Wallace having to play more minutes than he was able to handle at his age).

Might be a lottery team if injuries keep piling up

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Sixes and Blazers way worse. I would hate to be a sixer fan. Clippers last year too.

May be but BOY what a ride it's been.

TBH I wouldn't change a thing.

Even seeing KG "still" running with a limp during that Game 7 2010 NBA Finals but STILL trying his best?

Celtic Pride, baby.

I'd rather we go down swinging / injured than not even compete. And compete we did. Boy did we.

I expect Big Al to come back and Jae as well and we'll get this thing rolling again soon.

This stuff evens out, however.....guys who play like Smart and Crowder do tend to get hurt more often.  I'd be a little concerned about IT as well since he's fearless taking it to the hoop. As he agest he may find himself getting dinged up more often than he has to date.

Durability has to factor into your long term thinking as you shape your roster.

This is the first thing that came to my mind.

Poor Portland.

EDIT: And don't forget that injury to Wes Matthews that derailed a promising-looking team in '15. Everything came apart after that including Batum getting traded and Aldridge walking.

I dont' play the "perkins 2010" game, because as soon as you start playing that game, you forfeit the 2008 title to the Bynum-less Lakers.  2009 is the only year injuries really sunk us.  Others have felt that pain before (Chicago, Cavs, etc)
