Leaning Young

Thumbs down on Mickey
Doesn't Mickey have a guaranteed contract for 2 or 3 more years?

According to Hoopshype, he is only guaranteed through this year at $1.22M with options for the next two. It has always been assumed that the competition is between Young and RJ, but Mickey is looking like a very strong cut candidate - especially with the two young bigs (Zizic and Yab) getting seasoned over seas.
'
I don't know about that. I've watched all these guys a lot in Maine. Mickey is a waaaaaay better prospect than Young. His game is a lot more developed than Young's, you just don't notice because he's doing the dirty work on the defensive end.

His offensive game is a lot more polished than he's shown here, too. He has range, he has just looked anxious. He's also a good NBA athlete, whereas Young is average at best. When he settles down he'll really make a big leap offensively from the muddled play we're seeing now.

I disagree. Mickey is a great athlete, but so is Young. Especially when it comes to defense and rebounding.

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

I want to like Mickey more and had already removed Young from my brain, but this pre-season has been a plus for Young and a negative for Mickey. I have not watched Red Claw games like you have, so I am not going to pretend I know what he is capable of, but by this point, I really thought Mickey would have shown the ability to do something on an NBA basketball court - especially against third stringers. Heck, I even met Mickey at the NBA draft - I am definitely rooting for the guy.

What we really need this season is somebody who can come in and contribute if called upon and RJ seems the most ready to do that (in all aspects of the game). Young and Mickey don't seem likely to be impact players in this league so I am not going to lose sleep over it...

I could be wrong, though.  :P

CBS ....playing the heck out of Rozier and Brown .....

Those two are gonna see decent minutes this year.

We  will have a good 2nd string ....especically with KO one day.

I want to keep RJ and Young. Both are showing possibilities. (RJ finally showing some shooting, he always had the IQ.) I know it may not be possible to keep both. Young looks much better than last year...still very young.

Mickey is on the bubble for me, he and Bentel. Mickey plays more like an undersized center, than a modern NBA power forward. He lacks some skills.

Jackson is going to be good, he may over dribble a bit, because the spacing for the younger players was less than stellar. He lightning quick, and can definitely shoot.

I'd hate to be making this decision, because the possibility is, whoever we cut my get an NBA contract from another team.

Yeah, Mickey hasn't exactly lit it up this postseason. Which I'm kind of surprised at, cause I thought he looked better at the NBA level last year, and obviously much better in Maine. I've seen the polish so I'm surprised at how rough he is, though I do think his defense and rebounding has been solid. But I thought he was better in preseason last year. He looks more tentative now, whereas he was very decisive last season. He's also coming off a shoulder injury, I wonder if it's still bothering him.

Young and Mickey are still just young, though. They can still both be salvaged, but it will take time.

Wish they would expand rosters in this league and offer a proper minor-league system. It is weak that we can't develop guys like they do in MLB and hockey, especially considering how young some of these guys are when they're drafted.

Maybe they'll work something into the next CBA.

Cuts will be tough.  One thing some of you guys are being really unrealistic about is position depth.  Hard to say cut Mickey for example (even if I might agree) when there is not the positional depth there.  Zeller won't be cut at all, but he's a good example too.

Young and RJ are both really in eachothers way in that regard.  Really tough call I think.  I'd probably say RJ but I have liked some of what I have seen of Young as of late too.

Zero chance we cut Mickey in favor of Young/Hunter. Zero.

Horford, Amir, KO, JJ, Zeller, with some Crowder/Brown sprinkled in at the PF position. We have four guys who can legitimately play center and Brad doesn't mind going small in general. While I agree that Mickey makes more 'sense', I don't think positional depth is really going to play into the decision making process on who will be the 15th man; who has the most potential to contribute this year and beyond will get that spot.

Remember, we have Zizic and Yab ready to come over next year; it's not as if we have no young bigs. I am not saying Mickey will be the one on the outside looking in, I am just pointing out that it doesn't necessarily just come down to Young/RJ. The team does have options.

I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Jaylen had so many "highlights that weren't" (for you Starters fans). He had two or three fancy assists lost due to his teammates.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

At least everyone's trade value is probably as high as it could be at this time.
