isaiah is going to mesmerize the fans darting ,shifting direction and change of pace and horford will be the recipient of isaiahs assists-horford is sooo good at pick and roll
then the addition of two high flyers one that can spread the floor
green and asaiah at suns formed the best scoring duo off the bench -they got chemistry
isaiah i thought re injured his wrist last year and this year his pullups and three point percentage should go up

I think it's hard to have a breakout year right after making your first All-Star game, unless he's making a leap to an MVP-caliber guy, which seems very very unlikely.

But I agree that adding Horford to the mix can give IT's game a major new dimension in the P+R.  Looking forward to seeing them play together.

Still cracks me up how many people doubt Thomas and don't think he should start.

Rollie has this right I think.  The next step for Isaiah is not more scoring or a higher usage rate but rather being "the guy" on a better team.  To achieve that, he needs to score more efficiently, facilitate ball movement (not necessarily rack up assists), and play better defense.

Assists to me are a false stat.  A good look can come after the 2nd or 3rd good pass which can all start by Isaish penetrating and forcing the defense to react thus creating the opportunity for ball movement.  He will get some assists too but if Isaiah is playing well and scoring efficiently, assists should be distributed.

Agreed. Even after making the all star team he still lacks believers. Too small to be a starting pg on a contender some say. I say he had next to nobody to pass to. If the team can have a pretty healthy year overall and the addition of Horford I really think Thomas will be an all star again this coming year.

I suspect his three point percentage might go up, but generally I'd say his breakout year already happened this past season.

We have a big three or close. Isaiah could get a lot better. Evan Turner used to be called Evan Turnover. That slowed down a lot and most of us wanted him back but not for the crazy money.

Isaiah is prone to running into traffic and coughing it up a la Evan Turnover.

He can shoot better. He can definitely become more efficient.

I like his effort on defense.

It will come down to team wins overall. If we win a lot, Isaiah as the quarterback will be a big reason.

Horford could be part of a Big Three.

Perhaps Avery Bradley?

Each day that passes I am more confident. I think this team might win 70 games.

Okay, I don't really believe that, but I do think there's a 10% chance the Celtics win the championship. Those would not be bad odds considering we have Brooklyn lottery picks rolling in and developing.

I think there is something called a futures ranking. We have to be towards the top of that or will be soon unless everyone is such a half empty glass of debbie downer.

This is a great topic. Isaiah is feisty on defense. He does well for a little guy.

Isaiah has the potential to be one of the greatest offensive point guards of all time.

Perhaps Isaiah Thomas is still underrated and flying under the radar. He has one more level to go until owning the league. He is that good.

I don't see it.

I'm ready to trade him while his value is high, but it would probably look bad around the league.

I don't look forward to overpaying him in free agency.

This is crazy talk. Isaiah is a really good player, but so was Damon Stoudamire (who reminds me a lot of Thomas). Thomas was the better player, but not by much. However, the point is that undersized PG's (like Stoudamire and others) usually have a very small window. Thomas is turning 28 during the year and he's quickly approaching an age where smaller players start to lose it fast.

  • That's turrible
IT already had his breakout year. Now he's gotta do it again except go further into the postseason. And he definitely knows that.

I love the dude and his dedication to this team. He's a real Celtic. I hope he's a real one enough to accept that 6th man role again when the time comes when one of Smart/Rozier/Jackson is developed enough to handle the offense in a starting unit. It will happen within the next couple seasons. Especially if we decide to not trade those Brooklyn picks. Those will be SUPER important.

I love IT too, he's got a heart as big as the Grand Canyon. But the fact remains, he would make a great 6th man.

At 5-9 his defense is a liability, it's a destination spot for opposing teams to attack. When he's not feeling it with the ball in his hands, he gets terribly stubborn forcing his personal offense down the throat of the opposing teams defense, ignoring teammates while looking to get himself back on track. He does this to the point that Stevens eventually takes him out.

Another point is Thomas take a physical beating with his style of play. I've never seen a player hit the floor more that IT...sooner than later it will take its toll. I fear that years 29,30,31,32, will see a certain decline.

IMO Don't over pay him, his future should be as a star 6th man, where his wear and tear can be kept to a minimum, and his defense will be against 2nd line players.
