The Cavs will be better than Boston until Lebron James is no longer on the Cavs.  If a trade makes Boston better and gets it closer to actual contention (which I believe Love does), then why wouldn't you make the trade.

In the other thread on this rumor I proposed the following trade, which I believe is a trade Boston would need to make Love and Smith (sign and trade starting around 12 million) for Johnson, Jerekbo, Crowder, and Smart

Post-Trade Boston is clearly the 2nd best team in the Conference and a James injury away from the Finals

PG - Thomas, Rozier, Jackson
SG - Bradley, Green, Hunter
SF - Smith, Brown, Young/Nader
PF - Love, Olynyk, Mickey, Bentil
C - Horford, Zeller

IMO, that team is significantly better then the current team and is positioned much better going forward.

There is no reason to think the Cavs would agree to such a deal. Love had a good performance in this year's playoffs - despite a mediocre appearance in the finals.

Trading a star for 3 good players rarely happens in the NBA because stars matter more. To put it differently, NBA is a world where 1+1+1 does not equal 3.

Only case I can remember is when we did it with Rondo to Mavs but Rondo at that stage was no longer a star.

That's what I'm saying. They're already better than us so making a trade with them for a player they usually play better without with an elite defender widens that gap even further. Just makes no sense.

FWIW, I wouldn't trade Crowder, Bradley or Smart for anybody.  They are the team core, which must be kept intact.

A hotter rumor with more legs is Noel. A Boston guy (Everett) who is tweeting he loves Boston.
Roto is saying he wants to be traded.

I might give the '18 Nets pick for Noel, if I could re-sign him. I would not give any of those three mentioned above, but I might give them Rozier, Hunter, Young , or any of those surplus guards Ainge has stockpiled. The Sixers want guards.

Noel keeps getting stronger--and better every year. He is a realistic target for Ainge, who keeps shooting too high. He's probably waiting for the price to come down, and Philly may be waiting on Embiid before they pull the plug on Noel. Though I don't think they have to, with Simmons and Saric.

Noel is the guy to get, not Love.

Pretty much.  Love  doesn't fit well on this team, even though you can argue he fills 2 key needs pretty well: shooting and rebounding.  His role in CLE doesn't require him to rebound as much as in Minny.  Even so, Noel for cheaper is a better option IMO than Love if you have to lose core guys like Crowder/Bradley/Smart to get him.
