I have a quick question for those who would like for us to trade for Okafor... why not trade for Greg Munroe instead?

Okafor will likely cost us Smart or Rozier and picks. Given the situation in Milwaukee, I think a deal can be done around our own 2018 1st round pick and a player like Young. If we are in the market for a one-dimensional big man, my vote is for Munroe.
We are not. We are in the market for cheap elite talent. No one wants Okafor because he is a one-way guy, I want Okafor because his talent is elite and right now his value is low. Greg Monroe, more or less, is what he is. Jahlil is a much more gifted post scorer and he still has tons of potential.

All that said, even if my above reasons were total bullEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.. Monroe's contract is big and he is either cumbersome or gone next season, Jahlil is under team control for 3 years and we can add a max on top of him next offseason.

Doesn't Monroe have a player option next year that he is likely to opt out of? If so, salary really shouldn't be a factor unless you are talking about matching salaries.

I like Monroe, but his fit with Horford seems iffy. Also, he has likely reached his potential. If he is simply a replacement for Zeller, then sure, but I would rather take a chance on Okafor if it would only cost something like Rozier (not easy giving him up), Young, and 2018 Bos first.

By cheap, I meant salary. However, it also applies to cost. After that, not sure where the lol comes from.

I'd rather take Monroe or Kanter + assets than Okafor for meaningful assets. Monroe and Kanter can actually rebound too.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Okafor is more skilled than Monroe and he's on a way better contract. Trading for Monroe has a huge opportunity cost in FA next year. Not so for Okafor.

I don't love Okafor, as he is bad on defense and one-way offensive centers aren't usually good players. But Okafor has a chance to be sufficiently great on offense to overcome his defensive woes. He's just extremely smooth and skilled everywhere inside 12 feet, both posting up and facing up. As his mid-range game becomes more reliable, I expect facing up will become a larger part of his game, as he has the quickness to blow by lots of centers, he's got all the spin moves and counters, an incredibly convincing pump fake, great touch on push shots, length to get his shot off over anyone, just the complete package.

I think that some people overlook Okafor's defensive deficiencies, and some people overlook his offensive awesomeness because of his mediocre efficiency. In reality he's an incredibly talented player with serious flaws. I wouldn't trade the #3 pick for him, but a lesser package could be pretty tempting.

Greg Monroe is FAR more skilled then Okafor.

Okafor can only compete with Monroe as a post scorer - even then it's debatable if Okafor is actually better at it.  Watch Okafor work in the post, then watch Monroe.  Monroe is at least his match.

More importantly Monroe is a better passer, rebounder, defender and better at getting to the line.  Scary thing is that he's also more athletic/mobile then Okafor is despite being 4-5 years older.

Okafor may one day be as good as Monroe, he's nowhere near it now.

Of course Monroe is a better player right now. Maybe I should have said "talented". Okafor's offensive skill level is extraordinary for his age.

In my opinion, neither Munroe nor Okafor are long-term, build around fits. So whichever one we sign we are still in the market for a cornerstone big. Munroe's contract wont stop us from signing a max player next year, minor moves can be made to free up space... simply not resigning Amir and JJ covers Munroe contract. That aside, Okafor will cost us talent and a pick... a Munroe deal can be done and maintain our developing talent. I prefer Rozier/Smart + Munroe to Okafor.

I think people have answered this question and the answer is between these two is Okafor.   Okafor is a rookie, one could argue he will improve.   But the contract cost of a rookie vs. a veteran is really the deciding factor.

And that's the problem right?

With hard work and dedication, maybe one day Okafor will be as good or a little bit better than Monroe.

Monroe's team was just trying to ship him out of Milwaukee, at the start of his "prime", for pennies on the dollar.

I wouldn't give up much of anything "valuable" for Okafor. After SL, I wouldn't even give Rozier up in a deal for him.

Okafor has a 7'6 wingspan, he's 19 and already better than Monroe offensively. He also has decent footspeed which I think is underrated in this blog. I read Okafor's scouting report and it never said he isn't capable of playing defense, it's just that he is lazy. He doesn't even run the floor. He apparently didn't run the floor in the tournament either. So that is my only concern with him. I do believe maybe Stevens can get to this kid so that he can reach his potential.
