As the 16th pick, the $1.6m he'll make in China next year is about the same as he'd make in his first year if he'd signed with the Celtics.

So my first reaction is "Good for him" for getting paid. I just wonder how much he'll develop in China next year. How good is the coaching, especially when you factor in the language barrier? Is the competition good enough that you'd expect him to come back a year later as a better player?

Didn't Emmanuel Mudiay play in China as well?

Briefly.  He got hurt and then released pretty early on.

To your last question, I do think so. Or at least, I hope so.

You'll see a lot of former NBAers and "cup of coffee" names on that leaderboard.

I think he can really dominate there which will be good for his confidence and allow him to hone his offensive game.  There are talented players there as well.

But his combination of skill and physical strength should be huge in that league.  He can play C and really work on that position.

While Yab going to China could be used to create more cap room, it doesn't have to.  The Chinese league ends normally in late February or early March, so if Ainge keeps his cap hold, he could come over after the trade deadline if Boston creates roster room by then.

That isn't what I'd expect to happen, but until Boston uses that cap space in a different way, it's possible.

This is why I think China is an interesting move. In Europe he'd likely be ruled out until next year. Going to China leaves open the possibility at least that he could join the team later this season if there's a spot for him.

Is he definitely playing in Europe next year?  Has there been an official announcement made?
No official moves have been made yet. Yabu isn't under contract with any foreign teams so he will need to sign a contract with a team before getting sent overseas. I expect once Danny is done with the roster, he will help Yabu find a team that will be good for his development.

This is incorrect.  Yab signed a three-year deal with his French team last year.  He is under contract there for two more seasons, although my understanding is that he has a small buyout by Europeans standards, so it is easy to bring him over.
It looks like his team getting relegated made him a free agent, because he signed with the Shanghai Sharks for $1.5 MM. So I wasn't wrong.

On a side note, I wonder if he just decided on a team, or if Boston is announcing this now because they plan on using the extra cap space that him signing overseas would give them.

Yeah this allows us to bring back Zeller and one of the three rookies we took in the 2nd round.

Sending Yabu and Zizic abroad, and renouncing all other cap holds could allow the C's to sign Zeller to a deal around $10-12 MM. It would be much better for the C's to sign him to a two year deal with the last year non guaranteed than for him to sign the QO.

A player who signs the QO has an automatic no trade clause, while a 1+1 is a good trade chip.

Wow. $1.5 million bucks goes a long way in China. He'll live like a king for a year.

Because we could have gone over the cap to sign him since we've maintained his Bird rights, we already can sign Zeller to such a deal, even without removing Yab and Zizic.  Renouncing Zeller would create the space to sign someone else for such an amount.

I was hoping he'd come over, but if not, I was at least hoping for the ACB.

I'm not sure I'm thrilled with China.  It'll be an interesting experience for him I guess.
