Why does Brown have to be Jordan or a Bust?

It seems Jaylen Brown really divides opinions, not only on here but with NBA scouts and commentators. He is either dripping with potential or going to be terrible but why can't he be in between? I really see a lot of Jason Richardson in Brown, someone who has super-athleticism and will some day have some range to his shot but isn't going to be Kobe, Kawhi, Jordan or Lebron. Even though Richardson was never on an All-NBA or All-Star team, that doesn't make him a scrub as in his peak he averaged 23-6-3 and was only passed up for honours because he was competing against Kobe, McGrady, Allen, Wade & Carter, perhaps the deepest time for SG position in history.

I don't know, but if my team took a guy #3 overall and all we have to show for it is a slam dunk champion i'd be pretty upset.

I don't know if you remember how good Richardson was, he average that 23-6-3 with Baron Davis, Derek Fisher, Monta Ellis and Mike Dunleavy all on the team...that is very impressive.

I think Brown will be a better rebounder then Richardson because of his length but my main point is that does he really need to be a superstar to be a success?

He's super raw but has really nice physical attributes, so he appears to have a wide range of possible outcomes.  You can imagine him turning into pretty much whatever you want to imagine.


Jason Richardson would be a perfectly nice outcome.  He had some good years.

Very true, good point.

The one thing that Brown has that Richardson didn't in his formative years was a great franchise with mentors and a first class head coach.

I've been thinking lately with all the trade rumors that I'd be happy even if he "only" turns into Crowder so we can trade crowder and picks for a premier player.

Im starting to think he could be a more explosive Jae Crowder or a more aggressive Jeff Green.

Id be pleased with either. Both would require his shot to improve.

Brown can be a very good NBA player if he develops a shot.  Watching him shoot foul shots today was maddening (high arcing bricks).  The C's need to be patient with Brown and hopefully he will develop good shooting habits and in time become a solid starter if not an all-star player.

Because he was the 3rd pick in the draft. You don't draft a guy third to be a rotation player or a 6th man

I'm really hopeful for an Andre Iguodala.  I'd be pretty pleased with that and think it's pretty realistic.

Iggy's a great playmaker.  Was from his college days.  Trip-dubs all over.  Brown has a long way to go in that area.  I think he's more similar to Derozan.

Bingo, TP.  Brown at least has to be an all star to justify being picked at 3, imo.

He just has to be a good player.  A starter in the league for 10+ years.  A few all star games.
