By some accounts, we were the runner-up in the Durant sweepstakes. There are two scenarios for Durant this year: Win a championship or lose once again (or incur a season-ending injury again).

If the former happens, with a ring finally secured he will have cemented his legacy as a champion (with an asterisk). I still think there is a possibility he might go somewhere that he is the undisputed number one guy, so he can further enhance his legacy.

If Golden State stumbles, I think Durant might jump ship given the pressure, the bad feedback (I do not think he anticipated this sort of response), and the fact this is their best shot at a championship since maintaining the Big 4 beyond this year inevitably means losing Iggy and/or Livingston the following year.

If Durant is only a Warrior for a year, how would you feel about pursuing him again next offseason? Do you think there is a chance he could still become a Celtic this time next year?

If he wins he might bounce, but I doubt it.

If he loses he's coming back for sure. Rings above all else fur Durant right now.

We don't need a beta on this team. Kelly is enough. We need someone who will take the shot in final stretches and Durant refuse to do that.

Don't you think he would bolt back home to Oklahoma City instead.   I mean, look what it did for LeBron.

That seems unlikely with Westbrook likely gone.  Of course, nobody knows what kind of collusion will take place next off-season.  The inmates are running the asylum now in the NBA.

If you don't want KD, you're in serious denial. I don't think he's leaving.

I've read somewhere that the cap next year isn't going up as much as what was expected.  As a result it might be difficult to give new max deals to Curry and Durant, and keep Iggy.  So maybe a glimmer of hope.  :P

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I like it -

If GSW wins, Durant is leaving; if GSW loses, Duant is leaving.

We will finally be getting Durant!  8)

It will be $102M not $107M.

Agree with BudweiserCeltic that you have to be in serious denial to not want KD.  There are only 3 ultra-elite superstars in the NBA today: LeBron, KD and Curry.  You can argue whether Westbrook should be there, not that's not the point.  (Wesbrook prolly in that next tier down along with CP3/Kyrie/Cousins/AD.)

If GWS don't get the title next season, all arguments against KD signing with a super team will sound weak and thus he won't be that much pressured to leave them .
