I don't blame the celts at all. We had to go for Horford to have a chance at Durant but he's a declining 15 and 6 guy. Do peeps here think any team would be interested in getting that max slot opened for us again. Eesh. Tough day to be a celts fan.
http://grantland.com/the-triangle/al-horford-atlanta-hawks-superstar/
this is an article from a year and a half ago.

If you look at Al Horford as a 15-7 guy you are missing a lot about what makes him great. he adds a lot more to the team. In the article it talks about how all he cares about is winning etc and he is always working on things like his screening ability and how to get other guys in great positions.

We still have max cap room and with just Kelly coming off the books and a 20 mil cap boost we will have it again next year without worrying about resigning anyone. (With Kellys QO and a top 5 pick we should have 40 mil in cap next year with Horford on board).

Plus hes a huge improvement. A complete do-it-all big man on a team completely starved of big men. We won 48 games without him, we are legitimate players for the 2seed in the East becuase of Big Al and we can absorb a Jimmy Butler or Demarcus COusins or Russell Westbrook or Blake Griffin contract on top of Big Al. I think the wisest move is to keep the big fella and go try and win.

This team needs vet leadership over the age of 26. They need a inside out big man. They need a good locker room guy who can help the youngs grow. And you get all of this with one player.

His rebounds are down a bit last season because he developed the outside shot and was out on line more than before. I can see Stevens mixing it up a bit and I wouldn't be surprised if his numbers go up a bit. KG was thought to be toast when he came here, and that turned out okay.

Plus next summer, we now have TWO max openings.  8)

Al is perfect for our team where we currently stand with our Youth.. You cannot dismiss that.  What these kids will learn from this Vet will shape and mold our team for the next decade.. Same way it did when we had KD..

So the Celtics FINALLY sign a top FA and now you want to ship him out?! With all due respect, that might be the dumbest stuff I've seen all day. Come on, man.

Thanks for the insult but I'm just asking the question. I like some others don't think it's the best thing for us having a declining player for our team right now. There are valid points to how it would look but if we could do something I wanted to ask. So I did. Really no need to call things dumb. I respect people's opinions here and like chatting on the celts. I asked because someone might have a good idea. I was completely behind trying to get him for Durant but would I have signed Horford for the max if I knew we couldn't get Durant? No. Many fans would and many would not. Again, chill out guys. Really . Lol

Horford is perfect for this team.  Stop it.

We're gonna win 50+ with him next season.   Get pumped.  Contract isn't an issue at all.

That was an insult? My goodness do you have thin skin. It is dumb because this is the first time the Celtics have added a top FA in their franchise history. Let that sink in for a moment. And you want to just p--- that away by trading him away. Of course you do it if it's a complete lop sided trade, but otherwise definitely not. That'll be some serious ill will towards future FAs who may think about coming here.

They have to ADD to Horford, not move him. They struck out on Durant and Gasol.

It's possible they can get somebody like Bogut or Ezeli from GS, or maybe a guy from the Spurs they need to unload to sign Gasol.  I think Ezeli would be of interest.

I urge OP to look deeper into Al Horford. He will fit terrifically. Very underrated player. We talked a lot about being 2 guys away. Now we are 1 guy away with Jaylen Brown Nets '17 and max cap next offseason. Lets go get the 2 seed.

Thats the priority now.

Hey, believe me once the ball is in the air I'll be pumped to watch. I think you know more about the salary structure than I do. Math is not my strength. Gotta laugh at " Stop it." though. I'm not starting anything in the 1st place . I'm proud of the team.  I'm just asking a question. There are knowledgeable people on the celts here. That's why I asked.

1.  We can back out of officially signing him;

2. We can trade him after December 15.

Both are bad ideas.

It's not thin skin. I like chatting here. Peeps can make their points without being rude. I can handle it. Whatever it's all good. Have a great 4th. Go celts.

It's posts like this that literally make me want to puke. Thanks. I didn't need to consume that piece of pie anyway.

I think the main difference in an insult and personal attack is that he said that the idea was dumb, not that YOU were. On a board like this people have differing ideas that others think are dumb. Otherwise it would be real boring with us all agreeing. If he had instead said "Dude, you are an idiot... THEN it would qualify as an insult. Maybe looking at things in that light will allow you not to feel insulted when people think an idea of yours was dumb. ALL of us post dumb ideas on here. Wasn't attacking you personally I don't think... Just a thought.

While I am not sure that the C's would have offered him a max contract if they knew they weren't going to land KD, I am not sure that this is such a horrible thing either. It wasn't too long ago we were discussing trading some of our picks for Horford and then we'd still have to give him all that money. I think that our low post game was fairly poor and that this is an upgrade for the next 2-3 years. We might regret this in the 4th year, but then again he's a smart player and can adjust and adapt as he gets older and slower. I think we needed this to compete with the Raptors and Heat and now the Knicks who are likely better. We can't stay a 6-8th seed and expect to get past the first round. Horford helps I think.
