So if we draft Dunn, where is IT (or Avery) getting traded to?

It's quite simple. Dunn is only two weeks younger than Smart. He's already 22. You don't draft a 22 year old rookie 3rd overall in the draft to spend a lot of time on the bench. You draft a 22 year old at that slot because you expect they can step in and play 30 minutes a game.

According to many here on Celticsblog, Marcus Smart has very little value in the NBA (a position with which I vehemently disagree). Danny doesn't sell assets low, he waits until he builds up their value and moves them at their peak. Bradley (who just was 1st team NBA) and IT (All Pro who just scored 22 ppg) fit that profile. I also think he'll keep Smart because if he develops any kind of offensive game he and Dunn would be one of the best defensive back courts in recent years.

So between IT and Avery, who gets moved and for what?

PS - this is why I think the Cs may very well draft Brown if the pick isn't traded.

I don't think they trade IT. I think that sends a bad message trading away the guy that they publicly supported last year. I think more than likely, if they select Dunn, Smart and Bradley are more likely to be traded.

But I think it's would be a nice problem to have. You never know with injuries etc. Smart is always good to miss like 20 games a year with the way he plays. I'd keep that rotation as is until something good popped up. No need to make a bad trade just because you think there is a logjam on paper. Also need to figure in Turner and his FA status.

96 minutes for that group. The starters are getting 30 per night. That leaves 36 minutes between Dunn and Smart. That's not enough. Ainge never ever ever ever sells low so I don't think Smart is the guy to go.

Personally, I think Bradley gets moved. I just don't know where he's getting moved to.

If there is no trade partners and Dunn really is the BPA there is no harm done letting them fight for playing time the first few months of the season, and then maybe trade one of them.

A side note I love Thomas however once he gets closer to the end of his contract it scares me to pay him big money going into his 30's.

Are you just not high on Rozier at all, or just don't want him rotting on the bench?  From the little I've seen of him he's shown some promise to me.   He seems to be able to drive to the basket better than Smart at least, a better ball handler than Bradley at least, a decent shot out to 3 point range, a good athlete by NBA standards, and active on D.  I'm not really sure what that all means in the end, but I wouldn't mind holding on to him longer to see what he becomes(plus he has hardly any value now).

Bradley plays the 2 and IT is more of a scoring 1 rather than natural pg..

Smart and Rozier would be the leftovers..

Your math is a little off.  Brad likes his quirky lineups, and Smart will get some time at the 3.  When you factor in the inevitable injuries, since all four players leave it on the court, the minutes will be there.  Last year, AB averaged 33 minutes, IT averaged 32, Turner averaged 28, and Smart averaged 27.  There's plenty of room for all four.

I would think if Dunn is so good that they'd pair him with it or Bradley. I don't think it's realistic for us to believe Dunn and Smart can be the future back court only because the shooting will never be very good. It may never even be " good". Champagne problems though.

AB to Cavs as the focal piece of a Love trade. Dunn is no AB on D but he's no slouch either. And we need to stop trying to use positions to describe the roles in CBS' system. He focuses on ball handlers, wings and bigs, not the traditional PG, SG, etc.

So with a lineup of Dunn, IT, Crowder, Love and Amir the offensive potential there is incredible. Dunn can be the ball handler with IT running of screens or a PnR game with IT and Love. If we need more we can go smaller and play Crowder at the 4, KO as big and bring in ET for more flow to the offense.

If we draft Dunn, I feel a Love trade is a must
