I like Dunn and like his potential, but his weaknesses reminds me a lot of a lottery bust we already have on our roster.
I have no idea who you are referring too.
The only playerI can think of is Smart, who's biggest weaknesses at draft time were his lack of shooting, average athleticism, and questionable passing/ball handling skills.
Dunn is an elite athlete and is one of the best passers and ball handlers in the draft.
You may recall John Wall and Kemba Walker couldn't shoot when they came in to the NBA. I'd love to have either of those guys right now, and Dunn looks a hell of a lot like both of them.
While I agree with the general sentiments, I dont put Smart as an average athlete. He isnt an elite athlete, but his combine measures and some surprising flashes in his game says he is an above average athlete.
I'm just referring to what the scouts were saying at the time of the 2014/15 draft - I think every scouting report I read listed Smart's lack of great athleticism as a potential concern.
On the other hand, not a single scouting report I've seen has questioned Dunn's athleticism.
As for my personal thoughts - I'm not sure I'd describe Smart as an above average NBA athlete to be honest, at least not in the traditional sense. I think he uses his strength and frame fairly well, but I rarely ever see him blow by somebody off the dribble, and he's not exactly out there jumping over dudes either.
I definitely wouldn't describe him as below average athletically, but I don't think I'd describe him as above average either. Terry Rozier, for example, is a far more impressive athlete IMHO.
