I know the price for Butler may be steep but I have a feeling this could be a similar domino to Ray Allen getting us KG where as this could allow us to sign Horford, which could be the last piece before getting Durant.

This is just an idea, do you think this team is better than current OKC roster?

Horford
Olynyk
Durant
Butler
Thomas

Do you think this is a huge risk if say you have negotiation with Chi and they agreed to #3 and fillers for Butler

BUT you do not pull the trigger yet until you meet with Durant

"Hey Durant, we have this on the table, and still have money to sign you + Horford, would you agree to come here?"

So my question is if CHI really bites, do you pull the trigger before or after you meet with Durant?

Apparently Celtics have already met with his agent

I don't believe the C's have "met" with them, I think that would be tampering, but I believe some back door conversations between players has occurred.

I think Butler is a step in the right direction whether or not we get Durant this year.

Depending on how much we give up, and with the continued development of the youngest playoff team in the league, I think we could easily be 2nd to the Cavs in the East.

He's 26 and fits CBS system perfectly.

I honestly think Durant gives OKC one more year to contend. They were a blink of an eye in making the finals this year and I'm sure he wants to give it another go with Westbrook.
That being said, and assuming we get Butler, we can consider it a showcase year. If the Celtics can finish top 3 and make some noise in the playoffs (or at the very least make it past the first round), you'd have to think KD will give us some consideration.. that is of course OKC doesn't make a splash of their own.

Ray Ray only took 1 pick to get... We'd be giving Butler what we gave up for KG - which is basically everything..

IF KD doesn't end up in Boston will Butler and Hortford be enough to win anything more than a playoff series or 2?

Where the heck did this come from???? Where was I when this was posted! I think Danny knows and in a week from now we'll know IF dominoes will start to fall. I say if get Butler in a DRAFT day trade - without giving up Isaiah, then i think we may be onto something....only a week away and less than 175 more hours.....

Well, FYI, apparently IT just started following Durant on Twitter.

No, but that lineup with Crowder at the 3 and Durant at the 4 might just be.

He could be our Ray Allen, but remember what we gave up for Ray:

#5 overall
Wally Szczerbiak
Delonte West
2008 2nd round pick (so the equivalent of a 2017 2nd round pick)

We also received #35 overall in the 2007 draft.

That is much less than #3, Bradley or Crowder, and some other pick(s) or prospect(s).  Allen and Butler both had/have three years left on their deals.  I'd argue that despite being 5 years older, Allen was still the better player.

Wally's contract was also terrible -- it was about 25% of the cap with two years remaining.  Compare that to AB's contract which is under 10% of the cap.

The Bulls should get picks and prospects.  They should not get players who would solidly be in our rotation, playing 25-30 minutes a night.

I'm just not buying Durant having any interest teaming up with Horford and Butler. His chances are better staying with Westbrook.

I think he stays because he makes the most money if he becomes a FA in 2017 and not this year.

But if he were to leave, do you not think that a lineup of IT, Butler, Hortford and KG in the East is not a better situation than Westbrook, Ibaka and KG in the West? After all Hortford > Ibaka and IT + Butler > Westbrook.

I don't agree with that at all. We're talking about a team that was a game away from the Finals and would've made it had KD and Westbrook not choked in Game 6. It's not like we're talking about an OKC team that flamed out in a five-game series in the second round and just seems much too far away from winning a title. He's already on, based on playoff results, at least the third-best team in the league - which also happens to still be one of the youngest teams in the league.
