You gotta admit that Jaylen Brown does fit right into what Danny is looking for. A big strong defensive shot blocker who's struggled to shoot the ball. Kind of like Marcus Smart who's a great defender but needs to work on his shooting. I think Jaylen will be a good fit defensively. He can also guard on the perimeter as well. He's a nightmare in the paint and a high flyer I can see Smart throwing up Alley-oops to Brown finishing them off at the rim.

I guess that's if Danny doesn't trade the pick. I'm all in for drafting Jaylen Brown this team will be better defensively. Then we can sign a Dudley to come off the bench for the 3 game 👍

Well shopping the pick was a well known fact before they got the pick. I'll be surprised if they find a deal they like though.

As for the Brown rumor Blakely has no credibility he is just guessing. The problem with a pick like this is our defense is fine. You don't draft top 3 based on defense unless it's a big man that can be a game changer. Now I admit I have no idea how Brown will turn out as an NBA player but the fact still remains we need scoring. Someone that can put the ball in the basket. What worries me the most is I've heard many "experts" say Brown is the biggest worry for them. In their words can't shoot and wont be able to bully his way to the hoop in the NBA. Basically his game wont translate to the next level. I guess time will tell.

I feel confident that if Brown is picked, his game will translate well to the NBA just like Smarts game has. If Smart can improve on his shot so can Jaylen Brown. He does have a nice in the arc scoring ability he's just gotta work on his outside shooting. He will gain strength as his second and third year he will develop into a strong threat in the paint. If the Celtics keep the pick and draft Jaylen I'd be happy with that

  • That's turrible
I like Jaylen Brown. I read the article someone posted a few posts back. Love it. He's a smart dude who is clearly a workhorse. I say we take our chances with him if we can't trade for an established star. Who knows, maybe building within the draft is the way to go for us. We even have a higher chance for the #1 pick next year knowing that the Suxers and the Suns will be better, no doubt while the Nets will almost definitely trade Lopez.

Jaylen Brown looks like Jeff Green without a jumper.

People have pretty much identified that Danny LOVES this type of player (the 6'7-'6-9 220 lbs athletic wing) and tends to overvalue them so I won't go on about that but his pursuit of guys like Jeff Green, Justice Winslow, and Robert Swift is certainly relevant to this discussion.

I'd be extremely disappointed if they passed on a guy like Murray to draft Jaylen Brown since he seems like the least skilled player being considered for the top 7 picks in this draft to me, and although I realize he has the measurables to be a good defender he was a player that teams playing Cal seemed to focus on attacking.

I still take any rumor about who is going to be picked with a grain of salt.

Now is the time to lie to the "draft insiders" unless you are locked into the 1st overall pick and have a clear choice.

I do believe that they are looking to trade the pick for an impact player.
Is there any doubt Danny is aggressively making calls though?

I'm skeptical he means to trade the pick though.

I think Jaylen Brown will be much better then Jeff Green. Hey every player has different skill set. Green couldn't play defense he just wanted to dunk and shoot the ball. I think in a few years Jaylen will be a much more rounded ball player then Green.

This is the most bizarre thread I've ever read on Celtics blog, and I've been here since the beginning. OP links a "rumor" from our own website, written by A Sherrod "worst nba insider in the league" Blakely, and we're supposed to discuss this as if there is even a modicum of truth behind it?

Is this inception or something? Fake story within a fake rumor. My mind has been blown.

For those that don't know- A Sherrod Bobble head is "reading the tea leaves," which means his "inside" information is the same information that all of us have been reading, and he is essentially guessing what will happen.

Again, mind blown.

Wonderful! Let's bring in another guy who can break a backboard with one of his jump shots/bricks. That's certainly the method Golden State has adopted. Oh wait, their main guys are lights out shooters and our team will become closer to a reincarnation of the gang that can't shoot straight.

As unreliable blakely is, i can buy that the celts are looking to trade the third.  This info should not be surprising

If the bulls would take number 3, 16, 23 and amir johnson/rj hunter or james young.  Danny says yes right now

Otherwise a blue chip prospect like jaylen brown will be hard to pass up.  Celts are missing lots of things and one being a super athlete like brown.   Who is also aggressive going towards the basket like IT.

Celts are missing shooting & over-flowing with perimeter defenders.

I agree with Biggs, this is Sharrod creating a story based on Brad's comment from ten days ago.  Guessing he just read about it on CB this past weekend & reguritated to hit a Monday deadline.

Well I'd say that is more of the problem. Offensively Smart's game hasn't done jack Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline., he can't shoot and doesn't drive, can't seem to take anyone off the dribble, has no go to move and makes you squirm every time he touches the ball worried something bad is going to happen. Going into year 3 he is at best a rotation player right now.

I like Jeff and his dedication to theblog, but IMO he could have done a better job here.

First he puts a Blakely paragraph (no more comments needed).

Then he quotes an interesting ESPN article, omits 2/3 of the article (on the workouts) and discusses only the bit that gives some dubious evidence that this is the deepest draft class of more than a decade.

And cherry on the pie, for his conclusion, he returns to Blakely to conclude the C's want to trade the pick.

I have no idea what will happen, but this is not good reasoning.

For those interested, here is the ESPN article

I don't.

It's obvious the pick's greatest value to the Celtics is in a trade.

Now, where that trade goes is anyone's guess. I have no doubt Ainge will kick the tires on the Kevin Love fire sale that's coming, on Okafor and on other deals we have no idea about.

I am totally meh drafting another non-shooter in Jaylen Brown. But that's better than Bender - about 100 times.

The draft isn't going to provide this team a lot of help. A trade could. The pick most assuredly should be shopped first.

Ergo, the report by Clark is a good one. Just because the draftniks don't like it is no reason to bash the messenger.
