Call me a pessimist, but I find it hard to believe that an aged Horford is the key to signing KD. KD would be leaving Westbrook and Ibaka for Horford, IT, and role players? IDK about that... unless there is a strong desire to be in the East, Westbrook has made it clear he wants out after his contract, and there are legitimate rumors that CLE is going to break things up after this year (pending a Finals loss).

There's no "structure" to offer Horford.  You simply offer him the max for four years.  Easy-peasy.  If he agrees, you keep him on the line as you call KD.  KD can be on a team with three all-stars in the easier East, that has a nice cast of role players too.  Probably need to find a cheap big somewhere, however, as the roster would be a little shallow there.

We can draft as many as we need and let them duke it out as we'd still have #3 and the other picks or if we want someone who can produce ASAP, roll with Amir or trade the picks for someone (who? no idea).

Any team with KD and Horford means no Amir, Sully, or Zeller.  They're all too expensive after giving out two max deals.  Maybe Poeltl would fall to 16 or something.

I gave other avenues besides Amir, so either way, with all we'd have we can find a big.

Im sure Durant has also passed this onto the Thunder and all they have to do is move Kanter to free up the cash needed to sign Hortford. Would the Celtics take Kanter if they could not get Hortford?

Trade Amir to Thunder for Kanter then Thunder opt out of his contract

But, the path to the Finals probably easier if he puts his team together in the East.

I think Horford would be a good start, but I doubt the current C's team plus Horford is the best option for Durant.

If we can sign Horford and trade for a star then I think we might have a shot at Durant. I've always felt that the best chance to get Durant will be next year.

Hopefully the Hawks trade for Noel and no longer pursue Horford.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Not that he'd play, but if we sign KD you can count on us adding Perk as well.  Then, we'd just need someone to play in front of him...

That would sure sting for Billy Donovan if 2 of the 5 Best players he ever coached spurned his team to sign out east.

Horford has a relatively ground based game that could age well,  he's big enough to eat some serious space at the 5 spot and it's worth noting that though his stats were down last year, he did put up a career high in blocks at 1.5 per game. 3.2 assists per game is borderline elite for a PF/C too.

If Durant wants to get out of the West, I actually do think that the Celtics with Horford are the best option for him.  Toronto doesn't have the room without breaking up their team.  Same goes for Miami.   Atlanta is the other option, but that team historically has not shown a willingness to spend big around their stars.

Meanwhile, the Celtics have a foundation of top-tier role players, and the ability to bring in another star-level player via trade if needed.  OKC can't get any better.  They're out of cap room and running low on tradeable assets.  Unless he wants to join Golden State or San Antonio (which he might), Boston is his best bet.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
As is always the case, whatever deal brings in KD is a worthwhile deal for the Cs.

I am not a huge fan of Horford and it would really sting if KD didn't follow suit after Horford agreed to sign with us, but I think Danny would just make a strong offer to Chicago for Butler (hopefully not too much more than Bradley/#3) and we would roll with a new group ready to semi-contend in the east.

rumors or not, pretend it's true, if that is the case, I would have a meeting with BOTH of them at the same time, and lay out the plan

I don't want to sign Horford just for Durant to back out because in my honest opinion, Horford should be worth the max, near max sure, but not max in my opinion by himself. I'd only overpay him if Durant signs on the dotted line

Even if it's only Horford, and no trade, running back the same team with Horford replacing Sullinger, and adding the #3 pick, is still a contender in the East.  The team is still relatively young and it is reasonable to expect some internal improvement from a young player or two.

Not caring what Durant wants is a solid way to ensure he doesnt come here.

It's more likely that they'd just do a sign and trade for Horford sending Kanter to the Hawks (although it would be a HUGE overpay for a sign and trade
I'm bitter.

Is this a real rumor?   ;D

Or is this a fake rumor?   >:(

After reading the below...maybe it does not matter?   :o

Merriam - Webster
Full Definition of rumor
1:  talk or opinion widely disseminated with no discernible source
2:  a statement or report current without known authority for its truth
