Tough trade, but I think you do it knowing you can get strong defensive perimeter players late in just about every draft.

I probably don't, for the similar reason that you can get strong defensive interior players late in drafts (or elsewhere).

Yes.  Similar type of prospect, but defensive bigs are more useful than defensive smalls, and it's easier to find above average combo guards than replacement level big men.

Don't see why the Sixers would do it.

Smart can't shoot with any consistency, and he hasn't demonstrated an ability to run an offense either.  Not a great fit for building around Ben Simmons.

No.  They have equal defensive potential (how many perimeter defenders can guard power forwards when needed?) and Smart has superior offensive potential.  Smart also has two years left on his rookie deal compared with one.  Cap space is very valuable to the Celtics the next two summers.  I understand bigs are rarer than guards, but Smart has a higher ceiling, and cost-controlled contracts are valuable.

I voted no, but it's close.
-I think Noel is a slightly better basketball player overall, just because defensive bigs > defensive guards.
-Moreover, the PG position is chock full of talent, so the replacement level is higher.
-However, CAP SPACE TRUMPS ALL ELSE. Noel is a FA next year, and he'll be due to get paid. I think that we will be trying to make a splash in FA next summer, and we will not be able to afford 2 max FA's with Noel's cap hold (which is 2.5x his rookie-scale salary), unless we give away other key roster pieces like AB, or 1st round picks. On the other hand, with Smart we can sign 2 max FA's and then go over the cap to re-sign Smart in 2018.
-Finally, Smart is my favorite player and I will be furious if Danny trades him  >:(

Don't see why sixers would but I would . I think smart looks like maybe the worst offensive rotation guard in the nba unless I'm forgetting someone. Noel ugly on offense too but tougher to find a guy like him in d and he seems to know his limitations a bit more.

I have to admit I'm not a smart fan though. It's not even his fault. More the media trumpeting him as the heir to rondo and the new leader, not criticising his hero ball etc.

Stop with the Noel talk people.

He's not an effective player for us. Can't score the ball.

At least we have seen flashes of Marcus scoring and also he's a good defender. Marcus can be a 2 way player. Noel cannot.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I like Smart more. Smart is the type of guy whose effort raises the level of play of his teammates. Maybe Noel is more talented but I think Smart makes a bigger impact on his team.

Smart has shown to make the plays that produce wins, where Noel hasn't (not Noel's fault he's on a terrible team though). I've seen Smart make clutch shots, create clutch turnovers and dive on the floor for loose balls. Granted I don't watch the Sixers play a lot but I'm pretty sure you don't see those things from Noel.

I believe in Smart's potential ability to create offense more than I believe in Noel's.

Smart also has more versatility, imo. With the ability to guard 1-3 and even some 4's Smart is a versatile defender. Noel really only fits well as a 5 surrounded by shooters, when another big plays next to him that can't shoot he struggles. So Smart gives you a solid output at 3  positions while Noel can only play one.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Those are all good points. I just wonder if Marcus can ever be a starter when he can't shoot and Stephens looks like he'll run a 3 point offense no matter how bad our shooting is.

Would Sixers take Rozier plus Hunter instead? Rozier's game reminds me a little of former Philly great Andrew "Android" Toney.

I think Smart has too many special qualities to give up for Noel.

TP. My thoughts exactly, I know we need a rim protector and I would love to have him, but Smart is a special player. They are both excellent defenders, but I would rather have Smart due to his ultra competitiveness and toughness.
Warning: I am a Marucs Smart homer

I voted no, but could possibly be talked into it. Maybe if we drafted Dunn it would make more sense to me
