Since we are getting blasted I guess I'll put it all out there. I liked young at the spot, wanted hood, but thought young would be atleast contributing by now.

Did not like the rj hunter pick, thought his shooting was overated. However didn't love anybody else at that spot.

I like bender alot. I have questions about his game just like I have questions about okafor.

Cousins would be the best player this franchise has had since KG. Don't even need to explain the reasons, he is that good.

For some reason people think Bender and Noel are better long-term because they are longer and more suitable for todays game. When in actuality it is Okafor who has the most length, including hands (Trump) which he uses to grip the basketball like a tennis ball

I like the subtle dig there, TP

Unfortunately, Okafor doesn't use those hands to rebound the ball at an above average level

Again...

People on this board blow my mind sometimes.  The same people who are crying Bender instead of Okafor are the same people who thought we struck gold with James Young, they're the same people who thought Cousins donning green is a negative, they are the same people who thought R.J Hunter is the best thing since sliced bread.  I mean, the "logic" of these people...smh.

To go for Bender when you have a chance at Okafor is asinine.  It's just plain crazy.  There is very little to this guy, Bender.  I just don't see it, just like I didn't see with James Young or R.J Hunter.

Bender instead of Okafor?  What is wrong with people?  Jeez.

Okafor averaged 17.5 pts and 7rbd as a f'ing rookie for godssakes....AS A ROOKIE!

Man, I'm glad some folks here aren't running the Celtics Organization.  Opportunity would be smackin' folks in the face and kicking them in the nuts and they still wouldn't see it.  Unbelievable.

Ah yes, the 'ole "people who disagree with me must just be dumb!" argument

People here value different things in a player.  Those people also have different views of how a player will turn out.

Any proof on the people that want Bender also like James Young, hate Cousins, and love Hunter?  Because somehow I doubt it.

Look at Okafor.  He averages fewer rebounds/36 minutes than Tyler Zeller.  He's a slow, hulking 5 that can't play D and can't rebound.  He's an amazing post scorer, but he's a one-dimensional player.  Is it that crazy for people to want to take a flyer on somebody that has the potential to be a good two-way player in this league, with positional versatility and an outside game to boot?

Anyone saying that Bender is a surefire star is wrong, but so are people saying that he's a surefire bust or that Okafor is guaranteed to be a star.  We don't know how any player is gonna end up, and just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them "crazy" or stupid

Reason is not subjective.

And the future is not set in stone
I'm bitter.

Please dear GOD imagine what our organization and CBS would do with a player with his gifts.
Just watch this video and tell me he does not have a nice stroke and potential. Please keep in mind how big he is 280lbs and 7'6.25'' wingspan, 9'3'' standing reach, huge hands....and he is a very young rookie.

The hate for Okafor is funny.  If he put up those kind of stats as a rookie on the Celtics, people would be comparing him to hall of famers already.

Think of Okafor as a baby Trump. He needs CBS/a sugar daddy to mold him and give him the assets he needs to be GREAT. But little Trump is in horrible Philly and needs to go to Manhattan/Boston where the real players come.

I know he did not rebound at a great rate. This actually reminds me of the Myles Turner critiques when he was in college. A few variables are the same: bad system/coach, no legit outside scoring threats to keep the defense honest, teams packed it in and focused on the Big Man.

Lets say we trade the 3rd pick for him. Forget the other picks and possible signs and possible trades. The team we put on the floor to start will be much better than the team we had in the playoffs and will help Okafor and he will help them. One thing we can do is spread the floor and play some D.Example:
IT
AB
Crowder
KO( Ihope he is working on those legs and lateral quickness)
Okafor

Offensively:
This team alone will spread the floor for Okafor and heep the defense honest. It will help IT and everyone else because teams will have to remember that we have Okafor and doubles will be harder on IT and others. Everyone on the court can hit 70% from ft, which will be big at the end of games.

Defensively:
We could be much better depending on Okafor. If he joins our team and our organization and gets Brad Stevens as his coach, I am prone to think that he will improve every assets of his game and body. Having 1 year of defensive experience under his belt along with more training and an improved body; IMO Okafor could really be a defensive stopper. He has the solid 280 and length to go straight up and protect the paint.

Other advantages of Okafor:
-Fouls: Okafor should be able to get other teams big in foul trouble early
- A legit post scorer/maybe even the best: will keep defenses honest and open up more spacing.
-FT%: he can hit 70% but that may get even better, he can stay in games until the end unlike many other bigmen
- He can create for himself

If we have to give the 3rd pick for him I'd do it and have a parade. I get the fascination with Bender, but please for once trust me, next years 4's and 5's are just as talented prob more and the draft will be deep.
Even if the Nets pick is 8th overall we can grab some legit big's: look at Bam Bam, Thomas bryant, Hartenstein, Bolden, Jeanne. Or we could grab Dennis Smith Jr, who knows with the lottery but this year a Bender is worth the 3rd pick but next year it will be like the 8th possibly.

It is amazing that so many people are against getting Okafor for the 3rd pick... the same people who are all over Bender and bring up his age as a factor for why he can improve. I get that if Bender pans out he's better suited to today's NBA. However, Okafor has already proven he can play in this league... So why can't a 20 year old Okafor improve under Stevens?

Please dear GOD imagine what our organization and CBS would do with a player with his gifts.
Just watch this video and tell me he does not have a nice stroke and potential. Please keep in mind how big he is 280lbs and 7'6.25'' wingspan, 9'3'' standing reach, huge hands....and he is a very young rookie.

Also TP for anyone who can tell me how to post the actual vid on here instead of a link to it like the good ole' days.
The hate for Okafor is funny.  If he put up those kind of stats as a rookie on the Celtics, people would be comparing him to hall of famers already.

It really doesn't make sense. It's like their saying Okafor won't improve.
TP to both of you. If he comes here you know he's gonna get better. Hell as a rookie and having that experience, especially defensively, makes you better and shows you what parts of your game and body need work.

Something like 75% of this forum said they wouldn't trade Marcus Smart for the 4th pick... and yet people are against trading the #3 pick for Okafor.  Makes no sense.

No ones saying Okafor can't improve on his weaknesses defensively, he very well could.

The problem with Okafor is that he's a guy that HAS to be one of your top two options offensively to be as productive as you need him to be when you invest major resources in him. And a lot of people believe that if Okafor is your #1 or 2 guy, you'll never be good enough to contend. I've yet to hear an argument that Okafor could be the top player on a championship contender in the future. If he can't, you can't invest out best assets in him. It's that simple.

Okafor is a guy whom you have to plan your whole offense and defense around, similarly to Big Al and Lopez. Will he ever be good enough to justify doing that? If you don't believe he can lead your team to a chip, then no, he isn't. Smart is much more adaptable, you don't have to change your entire identity for him. That's the problem with Okafor.

Would you trade one of our beat prospects and our highest draft pick in years for Al Jefferson or Brook Lopez? I wouldn't. And I've yet to see someone convincingly argue he'll be much better than those guys.
