For some reason people think Bender and Noel are better long-term because they are longer and more suitable for todays game. When in actuality it is Okafor who has the most length, including hands (Trump) which he uses to grip the basketball like a tennis ball
I like the subtle dig there, TP
Unfortunately, Okafor doesn't use those hands to rebound the ball at an above average level
Think of Okafor as a baby Trump. He needs CBS/a sugar daddy to mold him and give him the assets he needs to be GREAT. But little Trump is in horrible Philly and needs to go to Manhattan/Boston where the real players come.
I know he did not rebound at a great rate. This actually reminds me of the Myles Turner critiques when he was in college. A few variables are the same: bad system/coach, no legit outside scoring threats to keep the defense honest, teams packed it in and focused on the Big Man.
Lets say we trade the 3rd pick for him. Forget the other picks and possible signs and possible trades. The team we put on the floor to start will be much better than the team we had in the playoffs and will help Okafor and he will help them. One thing we can do is spread the floor and play some D.Example:
IT
AB
Crowder
KO( Ihope he is working on those legs and lateral quickness)
Okafor
Offensively:This team alone will spread the floor for Okafor and heep the defense honest. It will help IT and everyone else because teams will have to remember that we have Okafor and doubles will be harder on IT and others. Everyone on the court can hit 70% from ft, which will be big at the end of games.
Defensively:We could be much better depending on Okafor. If he joins our team and our organization and gets Brad Stevens as his coach, I am prone to think that he will improve every assets of his game and body. Having 1 year of defensive experience under his belt along with more training and an improved body; IMO Okafor could really be a defensive stopper. He has the solid 280 and length to go straight up and protect the paint.
Other advantages of Okafor:-Fouls: Okafor should be able to get
other teams big in foul trouble early- A legit post scorer/maybe even the best: will keep defenses honest and open up more spacing.
-FT%: he can hit 70% but that may get even better, he can stay in games until the end unlike many other bigmen
- He can create for himself
