We saw SOME good minutes from him this year...Stevens had confidence in him for about 2 weeks. Bradley and Perkins both took a long time to develop, and they were older than James Young when they finally got serious court time.
I think some people are forgetting this little tidbit. In the first GS game, he played some key minutes, made some good plays. An unbiased analysis of his games show he certainly improved on defense. He was literally abysmal in his rookie year, constantly in the wrong place, losing guys, bad rotations, etc. This year he was passible. He still got burned a bunch, but he knew where he needed to be and he was giving his beSt effort. Kid has a beautiful 3 point stroke, and considering how severely limited his minutes have been it's clearly mental.
This summer is HUGE for him. With RJ and Rozier right next to him, and a bunch of 1st round picks, he may end up as a casualty of the roster crunch. Yet, we still haven't really seen him in extended minutes. 10 mpg for 2 weeks and a few minutes of garbage time aren't gonna allow him to grow into a role. We just might not have the minutes to give him at this point.
Still, I do think it's funny I've brought up the whole Flint, MI thing twice and no one has even acknowledged it. How would you feel if you were a 19 year old millionaire from one of the nation's poorest cities, and all of your friends and family were being poisoned by one of the most epic man made disasters in decades. I'm sure he's got people pulling him in 1000 directions, and I'm sure he's spending a lot of his time trying to deal with the fallout from what's happened in his hometown.
I tell you what. When I was 19, if something like that happened in my hometown to all my family and friends, I'd find it really hard to focus on basketball at the level required for NBA progression. Honestly how would you feel? Let's not forget that the players are people too.
