Two years in a row swept by the Cavs.  Both years the Hawks can say they were missing somebody important (Carroll, Splitter).  But really, they've had plenty of things in their favor and have come up empty.  They've won a lot of games in the regular season, but it hasn't meant much in the playoffs.

So what should they do?  Keep hoeing the same row and hope for some good luck?  Blow it up?

Here are my thoughts:

1. Re-sign Horford if possible.

They aren't going to do any better, in all likelihood.

2. Try to sign Dwight Howard if Horford leaves.

He could give them a stronger interior look, and maybe he's ready to play in his hometown, a place where there might be less scrutiny regarding his leadership skills, of lack thereof.

3. Shop Jeff Teague

Teague is a good player, but they've shown signs they're willing to give Schroder more run.  Teague is one of their few redundant assets, so they should see if they can turn him into some needed pieces elsewhere.

4. Don't overpay to keep Bazemore

Paying top dollar for an average talent isn't going to change their fortunes.

5. Prioritize finding forwards with size who can play in their system.

A wing rotation of shooting guards and a couple tissue paper shooting bigs backing up Millsap and Horford isn't going to cut it against the toughest opponents.

(1) Keep Teague. Schroeder isn't good enough.
(2) Let Horford leave. Whiteside or Dwight as replacement.
(3) Keep Bazemore.
(4) Move Korver to bench. Acquire new SF. Target Batum.

Bradley Beal would be a good risk for Atlanta. Give them a boost in shot-creation and much needed secondary ball-handling and playmaking.

I like Teague a lot more than Schroder, but I think they have to explore trading one of them in order to add better pieces elsewhere.

That series is making losing to Atlanta so easily an easier pill to swallow. The Cavs would have slaughtered us.

These playoffs have been something of a reality check.  Hawks and C's are competitive in regular season, but exposed in postseason.  If we came up so short against the Hawks, look at the mountain the Cavs have become.

I recognize that but nonetheless enjoyed the season.  Then again, for me banners aren't the only reason I follow the Celtics.  Can't wait to see who we come back with in the fall.

This season was never about beating Cleveland.

It would have been nice to give the Hawks more of a run.  Winning a series would have been a nice statement.

Oh well.  Lots of work left to do.

I think that they should try make a run for Durant or trade for an all star  that can help them
They got swept last year by cavs
Looks the same to me but minus Carroll
So they definitely need to get some help

They may just blow it up and try rebuilding around Teague (I also don't think that Schroeder has distinguished himself over Teague)
Korver should be able to get a 1st rounder from a playoff team in need of shooting help
Milsap and horford would easily get some assets and good young players with potential

Not resign Teague nor Horford as a start

Schroder has done enough to take the starting role next season

Just need "changeup"

I like Schroder, Millsap, Scott, Korver nucleus.  But Hawks need alot more than this

not a very smart move by them of keeping Horford and Teague on trade deadline imo

I disagree. If they're serious about putting up a title contender, then they need to blow it up and start over. This team won 60 games last year, which is legitimately the ceiling for them. Where did that get them last year - a sweep at the hands of the same Cavs team that swept them easily this year. I don't think Milsap and Horford are good enough to be the backbone of this team as a title contender, and adding someone like Howard or Whiteside would only replace one side of what they'd lose out on with Horford. I don't think you can play Milsap, Horford, and Howard/Whiteside together full-time, especially with all of them getting older.

I'd let Horford walk and shop Milsap and Teague for the highest bidder. There are two teams in New York that'd overpay for a point guard right now, especially if both of them miss out on free agents. Milsap would also bring a good haul back to Atlanta. You could get a couple of good prospects and some extra picks to help you build around Schroeder and Hardaway.

This is also the perfect time to blow it up and tank for several reasons - 1) the 2017 draft is supposedly absolutely loaded, and 2) most of the tanking teams (Philly, LAL,Brooklyn, Phoenix, Minnesota, etc.) look to be on the upswing, have no incentive for tanking, or in Philly's case have finally decided to start trying to win after tanking for three years. If they blew it up properly, they could easily secure the best odds in the loaded 2017 draft.

They will most likely keep treading water, it's what the Hawks do best.

There are indeed two teams in NY looking for a PG right now, but what do they have that's tradeable?  The Nets are out of picks for years, and have one young player of value in RHJ.  The Knicks aren't trading Porzingis, and while they do have future picks, they're otherwise light on prospects.

I think Teague is tradable, but I don't think NY is the target.  Sacramento has been known to do silly things, however.

Shop their stars for  lottery picks and rebuild from there.
