Marcus Smart, if anyone here hasn't realized it yet - is our modern day JYD.

Junkyard dogs are nasty, dirty, fearsome, protective of their turf and dangerous. They're often unpredictable.

Just as soon as you think you've figured them out, they sneak up on you and bite you in the keester.

But the owners of these JYD's LOVE them. They do their jobs effectively and with little fanfare.
I knew a junk yard dog once. My brother decided to take on a pit bull that was largely abandoned by a college football player that got kicked off the team (and you have to be a total moron to get kicked off Penn State circa 2009) and needed to try out for the pros asap. It decided to chomp the 90 year old grandma. We had it killed.

Give me an intelligent dog.

No no no....if this is the case, then the JYD was not used properly - and this doesn't sound like it was.

Lousy excuses if you ask me. Hair? That's just dumb dude. I know I was the person who brought up the music video here, but it's not a reason to move on from him...lol.

He still seems like a leader to me. He's vocal during games.  His defense isn't any worse. He still plays with heart. Give him a J and he's a very solid starter in the league.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

If I'm Marcus Smart's Dad, then I also share with him these kind words from a former Celtics Great and future HOFer:

Quote
Despite his propensity to hate rookies, Garnett had some kind words for the young guard following the game.

“I admire the young guy,” Garnett said of Smart. “I admire the young guy’s work ethic and how hard he plays. Obviously, they brought him in here and Danny [Ainge] knows talent. Just a good hustle play, just a little tap on the back to say good play. Nothing more, nothing less than that.”

So he just needs a J? Great. When will that happen? How about never? Is never good with you?

Eja, aren't you the same guy that wanted us to draft Robert Upshaw with our 16th pick? Maybe I'm mistaken and it wasn't you, but if it was, don't you think it's contradictory to want someone with serious issues yet not want someone because of hairstyle, music, and flopping? Again, I apologize in advance if it wasn't you.

I'm optimistic that he will. While he's trying to figure it out I expect him to continue bringing that D and his "Impact on Winning" to the table.

Yeah but garnett also said jeff green could be one of the best ever

So there's that

But I think that smart could definitely be an elite defensive guard and be multiple all defensive teams

But the thing that stops him from being a real centre piece that we can build around
Is his lack of offensive game and shooting

I really like smart but if he doesn't improve his offense and shooting
He may be on the trading block

It's been seen already with ainge offering smart and picks for nerlens Noel

I think he's regressed and takes selfish hero shots. I haven't given up on him completely on offense yet but I'd probably give him 1 more offseason and then I'll stop believing.

But the distinct difference here is that KG made a "prediction" on Jeff Green.

What he said about Marcus Smart is EVIDENT - a year and a half later from when he stated those words.

His work ethic is still unquestionable.

And Uncle Jeff? He's helping the Clips to hopefully advance in the playoffs. And at the time KG said those kind words about JG he was in fact helping us tremendously.....a fact that is all too often disregarded around these parts.

uhhh a lot of people felt jeff green could be great, not just KG. and for good reason he had all the tools and ability. green just didn't have the mentality to be great.

After two years, I can understand why some are fed up with Marcus. However, I am not, and I am still confident that he is an integral part of our future.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Flopping is annoying but you know what?  Being a jerk who does whatever it takes to win ... it works in this league.  Just ask Sheed, KG, Artest, and Wade.  Especially Wade.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Smart still has some rough edges (and I'm not talking about the ones that you wouldn't want to change as they make him the player he is) that could use smoothing over. Age can help that a lot. He hasn't convinced me that he is a must keep for the future but he is certainly good enough that you would have to be getting someone special back in return. He played a big part in getting this team to the playoffs and being 3 in the East for a long stretch.

Various issues I have with Marcus at this time. In no particular order.

We draft him and everyone knows shooting is something he needs to work on. Two years later he is historically bad. How does that happen? Also the same week as the playoffs he's making a rap video. Does this seem like a really hard and focused worker to you? I don't think this bodes well.

I don't like the hair any more. It was ok for a week.

His style of play is making refs turn against us for a good reason. Just being annoying and jerky isn't good defense. Flopping like a fish. Complaining/crying. I think he has regressed as a defender. He used to do a great job of staying in front of you and getting in passing lanes. Now it seems like he's trying to get in heads more, but his style of play attracts whistles and makes other players hate us, which will be bad in free agency.

He used to be a leader. Now he's not. He used to play hard. Now he's just a pest out there. Pesting is great, but it can't be the only thing you do. T Rozier is fully capable of that for less money.

His style of play....I don't like saying it, however.....it's the style of a punk. It's out of control and dangerous. It leads to him being injured too much. It is also dangerous to other players on the floor. It leads to the refs being unfair to us.  It's really the style of the bad boys Pistons and those guys were absolute punks. If I were another coach and he got out of control like that I'd just send a 12th man to get in there and injure him. Then you don't have to worry about him for a few weeks and he might think twice before doing it again.

There's still a lot of hope for him. But this is heading south right now and I think we should trade him while we can.

Eja, how do you really feel about Marcus Smart?

You don't like him because he made a rap video and has a unique haircut, you sound like my dad.
Maybe I am your Dad!

OK that was funny. Made me chuckle Tp
