Would you trade Brad Stevens for Kevin Durant?

My thinking: OKC seems to be terribly coached; a KD less OKC probably has more talent on its roster than the current KD less Cs roster. No doubt BS would have a Westbrook led Thunder playing much better ball (having BS coach both Westbrook & Durant pushes them past the Spurs in my mind, but that's not the scenario).

Durant added to Boston's roster with a league average coach is how good?

I think I would make the trade, add the NJ pick if needed and trust Danny to find Brad's replacement; then the Celtics play the Thunder in 2017 NBA Finals.

I don't know who wins?

I think the one thing that helped Stevens when he was hired was no established stars. You can count Rondo, but he was injured, and then came back, and then shipped out. Stevens has led this group of misfits that really have had no say in the NBA, and really had no leverage on a team. Now, there's no doubt about Steven's coaching ability. I think he's amazing and a top 5 coach in the league, but when you come into that situation you can really assert your leadership and your style.

If Stevens goes to OKC, will he get the same results out of an MVP candidate year in and year out? Will Westbrook be as willing to buy into the team first, selflessness style of play Stevens promotes? The celtics had to 3 years ago. Westbrook doesn't necessarily have to.

As long as the replacement coach isn't someone like Sam Mitchell or Kurt Rambis, I'd be on board with trading Stevens for Durant.

Hopefully, you'd replace him with someone, at least, competent, though.

Durant is one ACL tear from being a nobody.  A coach like Brad could be with the Celtics for a long time.

Would San Antonio have been good all these years if they had traded Popovitch?

You don't sacrifice your principles for any one player.

Players age, can get hurt, or somehow or other lose value quickly.  See Houston and Dwight Howard.

See how much better Houston played when they fired McHale.

Celtic tradition was having a good coach and sticking to it.

Also, maybe Wyc could trade Danny Ainge to the 76ers for the 1st pick in the draft and then the Celtics could draft Ben Simmons?

Imagine Simmons and Durant? Win now and in the future.

No.

OKC has Kevin Durant AND Russell Westbrook AND Serge Ibaka and they have made the finals once in several years together with an average coach.

Bring Durant to Boston with no Westbrook and no Ibaka and an average coach and you have...nothing.

How do you trade a coach?

You can only trade a coach if he wants out. You receive assets in return for letting the coach out of his contract. However, I don't think you can trade a player for a coach, just picks.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

As you say this, Greg Popovich and Phil Jackson are shaking their heads.

If you think that the Spurs would have won their last title (with an ancient dinosaur version of Duncan, an almost as ancient dinosaur version of Parker, and a green prospect version of Leonard) without Pop as coach, then I don't know what to say.

Sigh. This shouldn't even be a question. You take KD all day. Top 5 player in the league or top 5 coach? Are you serious? Yes, the spurs might not have won without Pop, but every championship team would not have won without their star player. Period.
