Marc Stein is reporting that buyout negotiations between Joe Johnson and the Nets have begun.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14843163/sources-say-brooklyn-nets-joe-johnson-talking-buyout

Stein is also reporting that the Celtics are interested in signing JJ!

Quote
A number of likely playoff teams, sources said, are already pursuing Johnson: Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Houston, Miami, Oklahoma City and Toronto.

That would be pretty funny.

Pretty good news for the pick.

Would be even better news if the Celts could sign him.

Joe isn't great anymore, but he would give the Celts a versatile wing player who can handle the ball a bit, shoot a bit, and ISOJOE a bit, which might be valuable in the playoffs.

He'll probably go to OKC or San Antonio though.

Cleveland reportedly wants him as well.

I think it would be good to add Johnson to our team for our playoff run. Lower his minutes in March/April so he can be rested and learn our system. At the end of the games when its crunch time, having him as one of our main options would be great.

I wonder if Lopez will start scoring 40 plus a game for the Nets if they lose Johnson. If only they would buy out Lopez as well so they could go winless for the remainder of the year  8) Not that I would ever be rooting for another team to fail miserably ;D

Sounds good but who is going to lose minutes? Turner?

I'm guessing Jonas and maybe Zeller. Stevens could use Crowder at the 4, as he likes to go small, and it looks like KO will be out for some time.

This news coming today is big---hopefully it will keep Joe from playing hard in tonight's game in Phoenix...we could REALLY use a Suns win.

Who? Laid back Joe? He will play like he does every other night. Won't make a difference to him.

Hopefully negotiations are moving faster than expected so he is held out altogether. I'd hate for him to go all out in an attempt to end his Nets career on a positive note.

I don't care where he goes, the fact that he won't be on the Nets is huge news for the pick. Too bad they didn't buy him out before his game winner a couple weeks back

Based on CBS's comments a few days ago about what kind of player he would want for the 15th spot, it sounds like Joe Johnson is the guy. CBS said he wants a versatile player who can provide shooting , and if that kind of player were to become available they would go after him. That was a few days before these buyout talks for Joe Johnson were reported.

i could barely watch PP do isothing, whn he was one of the best in the business, and i'm his biggest fan.
as far as i am concerned, CBS is a genius at late game situations and the last thing on earth would i want for us to pick up an old, silent joe johnson so that he can launch bad shots at end of the tie game situations.

Johnson seems like the epitome of a guy Stevens wouldn't want.

Low effort, no defense, little ball movement, no leadership. He can shoot and put up the occasional big shot though.
