Sources: Atlanta's expressing its intentions to rivals that Hawks plan to keep team intact at deadline, holding onto Horford and key guards.

at this late in the game - its probably NOT going to change.

Two teams interested in seeing where Sean Marks stands on Thaddeus Young: Toronto and Boston. Likely more, Young an appealing player.

young makes sense , he would be an upgrade , and wouldn't cost us the brk pick

I don't think anyone is going to give us a pick for Lee. If we can't use him in a larger trade for a star, he will be cut after today , and every team knows this.

For $8mil in cash? Beg to differ....

You're looking at this all wrong. Portland surely has other suitors who'd like to dump salary themselves.

This is all about who will give the most to Portland for that benefit.

So, I think the pick, if anything, is going to come from Boston's side. They have a ton of 2nd rounders to burn. If anything comes from Portland it's a heavily protected 2nd rounder.

Why Celtics do it? Because we gain a TPE which can be traded through draft night (will lose value after that).

And that's a good deal to make.

The only way Portland sends us something is if they have no one else to play with, which I very much highly doubt.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but you're not factoring the salary floor.

It could very well be that Paul Allen would rather have a couple of 2nds than a substantial amount of cash, but the Andersen-to-Memphis deal from day before yesterday flies in the face of that. Neil Olshey is too good to let an opportunity like that pass without doing so deliberately.

As I've stated, I'm not overly concerned about netting a late pick, but I also doubt Danny needs to include one when the case savings to POR is huge.

And would in fact make the Brooklyn pick more valuable.

Indeed.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=zevq54j

BOS gets: Young, Joe Johnson
BKN gets: Lee, Amir Johnson, Jerebko, Celtics 2016 1st

Brooklyn moves under the luxury tax threshold with the move. And they probably lose more games for the rest of the year, with Young gone and Johnson not making any last second bank threes...

Johnson never makes it to CLE this season. Biggest issue I see is we lose Jerebko's man defense on SFs, which hurts a little...

Still think Ainge grabs Howard at the last minute.  It just makes too much sense, try him out for a few months.  He is going to be motivated to play well and play deep into the playoffs.  Maybe he falls in love with the City like KG did.  I think Howard still has some real good basketball left in him....

If we can keep AB,IT,Jae, Smart and all our brk picks , I would have no problem getting Dwight .

Me too. But it's a little dicey in the trade machine. Lee for Young doesn't work straight up. Getting under the tax could be a nice silver lining of the deal for Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, if you add players to Lee in order to net just Young, who is that player gonna be?

- Trade for T.Young and weaken Nets in the process.
- Trade for Horford
- Trade for Hayward

It's noon, this isn't late in the game. 2:59 is late in the game. This could be a bluff to get teams to cough up more, which DA wont, an other team may, and oh well, not worth a 2 month rental when we aren't that close to winning it all.

Most trades happen the last two hours, big ones, the last few minutes, and then even that we don't hear of any for 10 mins after the deadline.

As of right now Atl and Clev might need to move their guys if they want any shot at winning games in the playoffs when they've made it pretty clear they don't want them. Harford will still play well, he's playing for a pay day, Love may suck it up, to stick it to Lebron, lowering the price and making Cleveland look foolish for the Wiggins trade(which they already do).

I AM factoring the salary floor, I just don't buy that we're the only ones in position to help the reach it.

First it'll be a competition of who'll give the most to gain the TPE.

If all that fails, and we're the only suitors then it's a fight between who has more to gain... salary savings for Portland or Boston with the TPE.

And it's only in that last scenario in which I can see Portland giving up a 2nd rounder, and maybe not even then since I think both teams get something out of it in the end.

Who knows. I just don't think that the trade or the asking price is Lee for 2nd rounder, but the opposite. If nothing materializes, then sure that could be entertained.

Sources: Atlanta has shut down talks on guard Jeff Teague with several suitors -- including Utah and New York.

so no ATL redo....See you in the summer.
