Buyouts usually sign on for contenders. Not middle of the pack teams.

Ummm... you've been watching us recently right?

Ainge said it best. We are 3rd in the East now but we were 9th just a few weeks back and we can move anywhere between now and close of season. He wants to make a move that will keep us in 3rd. That is where Boston is. Still fighting in the pack of teams competing for 3rd-9th playoff spots and nowhere near title contention. Players around the league know that.

Whilst I see that argument I'm inclined to disagree slightly. There is more parity between 3-9 than  between us and Cleveland. However looking at our point differential we compare well with Toronto and the Clippers and much better than the other teams in the East playoff race. I expect that to show in the final third of the season.

If there is a move that makes us better danny will make it, I agree. But if there are buyout candidates and we have an open roster spot then I see teams considering us
but why consider them?  players being bought out are being bought out for a reason -- their usefulness has pretty much come to an end.  if signing any bought out player moves the needle for us, we weren't as good as people seem to think.

This statement is very true, but the qualifier "usually" is my concern this deadline.

I think that players who are desperate to rehab their value are likely to choose playing time over contention.

I think that players like Stephenson and Lee in particular could well choose a team like the Nets to play for 2 main reasons. First, they will get a lot of playing time and second,  they will get the exposure of playing in the very big market that is NYC.

I don't know who else is being bought out, but I don't want anyone with something to prove (which is probably most buyout candidates) going to the Nets.

I'd like to add Smart missed 21 games between November and December, and Bradley missed 3 to start January.  It's very important that we have our 3 guard rotation healthy in order for us to be successful which is why I'm hoping Danny doesn't trade either one of them now.  Also other minor alterations to the rotation such as benching Lee and playing Zeller has contributed to our success.  If these things remain the same I really don't see us falling back to a 9th seed.

Lance Stephenson is likely to get almost immediately bought out by the Magic after the pending trade with the Clippers.

Do we want him?

Joe Johnson is a buyout candidate as well.

Do we want him?

If so, we better clear a roster spot of two.

I guess buying out Lee will open one up.

Thoughts?

I like Evan Turner more than Lance Stephenson.  Given how well those two mixed in Indiana, I will most certainly pass.  (And given both of their post-Indiana experiences, I'm fairly sure the blame rests on Lance.)

I'd agree.  I don't want Lance Stephenson anywhere near this Celtics locker room.

Lance is only making 9.4 mill this season. Pretty cheap for a walking triple double, the LBJ stopper, and ultimate competitor. I imagine he will sign a much larger contract next year... certainly well worth it.

I'm concerned that putting Lance on this team would cause the rest of the East to pack it up and go on vacation early.  I love winning, but I love watching basketball games more.  Mass forfeits don't really do it for me.  Just food for thought.

Fwf, I've said this before and I'll say it again: I would follow you into a house fire carrying cans of propane.

Your concern makes all most too much sense. Thank you for the insight.

Not sure I'd refer to him as a guy or "man" - too mortal sounding. Legend seems more appropriate.
