The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired second-year coach David Blatt, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.

The title-hopeful Cavaliers lead the Eastern Conference at 30-11 but were blown out by the defending champion Golden State Warriors on Monday. Blatt had lost support of the locker room over the past month, sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

Associate head coach Tyronn Lue has been elevated to interim head coach, according to sources. Lue signed a three-year contract Friday to be the team's head coach, according to Yahoo! Sports, which also first reported Blatt's firing.

Sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard that many Cavs players, especially the veterans, felt like Blatt was in over his head as coach. They questioned whether he knew the league well enough to lead them to a championship.

LeBron James was not consulted before the Cavaliers made the move to dismiss Blatt and was informed of the decision Friday, sources told Windhorst.

Blatt leaves the Cavaliers, his first NBA coaching job, with an 83-40 record, and his .675 winning percentage was the best of any coach in franchise history. Cleveland lost to Golden State in the NBA Finals in Blatt's first season and James' return to the Cavs.

Cleveland started the season without Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert for the first two months because of injuries. Timofey Mozgov (knee) and James (back) also were less than 100 percent coming out of training camp.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I read LeBron is going to have his own reality show in the offseason where he tries out a group of coaches and fires them until one remaining coach claims LeBron's heart.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

What does this mean for Kevin Love?
It means as soon as they lose to the Warriors or Spurs in the finals you will see a bunch of articles about how he was a bad fit, then he will be dealt.
isnt it more likely that blatt is being fired partially because of his inability to make the most of his three stars ?  Kevin love has been grossly misused since joining that team.  That falls on the coach.  If anything, this makes me think it's far less likely Love will be traded.

Deserved to be fired. Blatt failed to make that group of individuals a team. They do not play together as a unit. Just as individuals. Especially LeBron and Kyrie.

Honestly, it was a curious choice to begin with...but now,Ty Lue---?
Seems like the players and the lunatics are running things in Clev...
Why wouldn't the owner hire a coach with actual Head Coaching experience in the NBA--?
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

And they just figured this out yesterday?

What?  They hadn't spent enough time with each other until then?

This is just so unbelievably laughable.  Are they hoping there's even one person out there who doesn't see the transparency?

The only thing worse than letting LeBron be your president of basketball operations is not allowing LeBron be your president of basketball operations.

I agree. Blatt's inability to get his 3 stars to work together was his downfall. They will bring in another coach to make it work. If it doesn't then, then they'll reassess K-Love's future in Cleveland but not until then.

So the face of the franchise and, arguably, the best player on earth wasn't consulted before coaching change was made?  Yeah, right.  Is that the narrative that LBJ's people are trying to shove through Windhorst?  That's laughable.

I am sure it has happened, but how often has a team won the championship with a coach fired midseason

Lakers in 82. When Magic got the coach fired. That is the 1st one that jumps to mind.

Oh, the 2006 Miami Heat. Pat Riley took over from SVG.

Ha! Both times Riley.

I agree that Blatt was fired partially because of his inability to make the most of Love. My opinion is that no coach is going to get the most out of Love, that his failure is a function of personnel not coaching.

LeBron and Kyrie both are isolation scorers that simply doesn't jibe with getting Love the quality looks he deserves. Since LeBron prefers to have the ball in isolation and Lue got the job because he's close with LeBron, I really doubt that the coaching change makes a difference.

Here is an old Grantland article from before Love and LeBron joined forces. The writer indicates that both Love and LeBron prefer shooting from pretty much the same spots. I just don't think it's a good personnel fit.
