there were a lot of Lakers fans in the arena cheering him on, and there were definitely a bunch of boos as well. Personally, I would've wanted Kobe to be cheered in the intros, boo'd throughout the game, and then given a standing ovation at the end.

Not saying Kobe doesn't deserve chants anywhere he goes, but hearing the crowd chant "Kobe" makes me feel some type of way.

I think a better way to do it would be the boo him whenever he had the ball, and give a jeering cheer when he does something good. I think that would have been a nice playful banter. I think the crowd was going towards that for the earlier parts of the game.

When the end was near, "Kobe" chants started but would be drowned out by boos. Starting the the fourth it was just cheers and "Kobe" chants.

Its cool to pay respect to a player that contributed so much to the league, but during the game is not the time. Especially not when a player of your team is on offense. E.g. when IT4 was shooting free throws near the end of the game and the crowd started chanting "Kobe."

Embrassing. Listening to that 4th quarter and all the cheers after LA scored made me cringe. Chanting Kobe's name.

This team has no sense of urgency. I'm surprised they have a winning record the more I think about it.

Take the "Fans" out of the title and it's now more appropriate.

Embarrassing loss. I don't care how much I respect and will miss Kobe, we should've kicked his tail tonight.

Love the Boston crowd.

A great example is the game when they cheered the big three off the court even in a playoff loss. That was great.

But this was sick. I was very, very saddened to hear all the cheers when kobe would make a shot.

Very disheartening. He plays for the darn fakers. We should never root for them..ever.

Any C's fans at the game cheering for kobe...shame on you.
agreed.  it was one thing to cheer him during introductions -- understandable at that time.  after that, nothing but boos should be thrown at him

And that's what happened... unless you expect Lakers fans to boo him as well?

In fact I heard many boos in the intro as well.

I would hope enough Celtics fans went to the game that it didn't feel like a faker home game, which it did.
exactly.  seemed like half or more of the arena were cheering him.  certainly drowned out any booing that might have occurred.

This loss took a piece out of me!!!
watching the replay and here's this lady in a Celtic jersey shaking hands with Kobe with about one minute left in the game, freaking disgusting. game ends and now, unsurprisingly, you can here the boos mixed with chants of Kobe mixed in....disbelief!!!

I'm with you on the embarrassment of this loss. Looks like the Cs took a 5-win team for granted and/or got caught up in the horrible Kobe lovefest. Either way, a lame effort. Lou Williams came into this game mired in a terrible slump, so of course the Cs let him go off for 19 points on 7-9 shooting. Julius Randle has also been struggling lately, so of course the Cs allowed him 15 points and 12 rebounds. And giving up 112 points to this crappy Lakers team is just shameful.

As for Kobe, I'm not going to miss him at all.

Did the C's loose or did they let LA win to help them catch up to the Nets to give us a better chance at a top pick? :P

Still should have won though...

I was at the game and I literally thought the memo was

Kobe touches ball - boo
Kobe shoots free throws - cheer

People are acting like we lost this game because of the fans showed appreciation for an all-time great player who has an incredible connection with this city.

We lost this game because our players didn't show up for pretty much 75% of the game and did not play D.

So it is okay to give this guy a piece of the parquet floor, but not okay to cheer him?  Got it.

Not sure how you can bash the fans who showed their appreciation for 20 years of memories when even the Celtics players are lining up for photos with him.

At least with that piece of parquet floor, he can remember how much pain it stunned and tormented him over 2008 hehehe.

Makes sense why they didn't bother to show up then. Goes back to what I said about this team lacking a sense of urgency. This is the easy part of the schedule.

And honestly deserve this loss.

Kobe Bryant is a guy who gets commended for respecting this game. I'm pretty sure he would have endured getting booed in Boston...we cheer him. i'm freaking disgusted by Celtics fans.

and yeah they were Celtics fans cheering for him.

Because they know better. Taking it personally is just selfish IMO. Paying respect to a player who has contributed a lot to the game of basketball whatever jersey he has donned is duly rightful. And it is also a testament to how classy Celtics fans are, which is being revered around the league.

Come on guys, take off your green tinted glasses for a freaking second. Look, obviously nobody here is a Kobe fan, and obviously we're all a little salty because he is a Laker, but give respect where respect is due. Yes the Kobe chants were a little much, but the hate for him at this point is a little ridiculous. The guy is a legend and a top 10 all time player. The man's contributed a lot to the game and deserves some credit.
