Update on Perry Jones III

I know not all of you will care. That's fine. We had a lot of Jones fans on this website.

I went to the Maine Red Claws versus Iowa Energy game tonight (Red Claws won!!!). As I was getting in line, I got talking to this girl next to me. Come to find out, it is Jones girlfriend. She was dropping info like you wouldn't believe!

While we were talking, she said a few things:
1) He is getting back from injury right now (guess ... knee problems). The Grizzles (Energy affiliate) are taking a serious look at him.
2) Dallas had given him serious interest. We got talking about it ... Imagine Jones playing the Powell role in Carlisle's offense.
3) He was super-excited to get traded to the Celtics, but he had to leave the last few days of training camp because a 28 year old relative died of heart failure. During this time, he was released.
4) He wanted to be healthy to play the Celtics' D-league team tonight. In her words in his words, "Someone's gonna drop 50 on 'em." Unfortunately, his knee wasn't ready.

Edit: I know I don't have proof. Not trying to make up stories. Just thought some of you would find this interesting.

This is why he fell to the end of the first round in the draft.  His knees were red-flagged coming out of college.  Apparently the prognostications were correct.

He didn't get cut during that time, he played in a few games after it (IIRC). She could mean it was part of the reason he didn't play well, but he wasn't cut during his "DNP personal reasons." I wish the best for him, he didn't do anything wrong while here (play excluded).

and this was why ainge, and other GMs, steered clear of him on draft night. too bad for him, i wish him luck.

but he did make just over $3,200,000 in his short career. i hope he invested it wisely. if so, he is set for life.

I was definetly one of those poster who was excited about the trade, drew some flack for suggesting that I would have kept him over James Young. What he did for OKC during that tiny stretch before getting injured last season was truly special. Wish him well, hopefully he can salvage his career. TP for the inside scoop.

Actually the highly talented, former career threatening injured guy that's got my eye is Quincy Miller. Saw this on Realgm the other day...

Quincy Miller was one of the top high school recruits until he tore his ACL and was never the same. Athletic speciman, nice shooting touch, scorers mentality, confident in his abilities. If we go another year without acquiring a dominant wing I'd be all for giving Quicy a look. Maybe he could be the next Hassan Whiteside or Gerald Green and season a bit a cross the pond before reestablishing his NBA career.

Shorter seasons, less travel, and inferior competition would do that to your stat lines.

She seemed like a pretty cool girl. I mean, she moved to Iowa from Texas with Jones. Iowa isn't bad, but for a Texas girl, the small city and cold would be different. She was genuinely excited and hopeful that he would be able to turn a corner and find a team to stick with. That's why I thought Dallas would be perfect for him. They could move back home and Carlisle could carve out a role to make Jones an effective player on a cheap contract. I don't see many other opportunities that give him a chance to be successful right now.

Honestly, I wasn't even thinking about her like that (I've got an amazing wife I'm committed to).As a human being though, she was friendly and pretty cool.

Oh, and by the way, she said it was a "Knee Contusion" not cartilage damage or swelling.
