Kidd seemed to play a pretty big role in the decision to trade Brandon Knight because Kidd (correctly) was concerned about Knight's limited PG skills. They backed coach over player then.
Correctly?
But maybe you're right. If they were dumb enough to do it then, maybe they're dumb enough to do it again. They love making bad trades in MIL.
Then again, maybe Kidd has doubts about Marcus' PG skills....
Correctly = yes, Brandon Knight is a very good scorer and defender but he is a limited floor general and playmaker. Milwaukee needed a PG who could run the offense and create more for his teammates. Rather than just himself. So that assessment was spot on.
The trade itself you can debate and say whether it was right or wrong.
But the initial assessment of B.Knight's skill-set and that he did not deliver what Milwaukee needed from it's PG was correct. That Milwaukee did not have enough playmaking outside the PG position to balance out a limited playmaking PG ... and thus needed a PG who was more of a playmaker than B.Knight was.
Why would I debate anything other than the trade itself? It was not a secret that MCW is totally overrated when they did the deal. Defending logic over actuals is moot.
I understand why a team might trade for a passer over a scorer, and moreover why MIL was tempted to do so (which is why I argued we trade Rondo for Knight & Henson over 1.5 years here, which at the time was realistic and woulda been a great deal). But downgrading talent for fit on a team nowhere close to championship caliber is poor management.
And indeed, the deal was a bad one. They traded their best player for junk, because they were scared to pay him. Instead they reveled in giving it to Monroe, another overrated player who is a horrible fit, and sucks up shots from the same peeps that Knight did. The results speak for themselves. They can't guard a chair over there.
Meanwhile, lost in this is the something pretty basic: Giannis is your ball handler, Bucks. Swapping a backcourt scorer who can work off him for a guy who can't shoot is not whipsmart.
Back to the point: I love MIL as a trade partner. Hammond loses deals time after time... exactly the type of GM Ainge loves to take advantage of.
