They shouldn't do ANYTHING to motivate the Nets.  Just let them quietly lose.  Stop tempting fate.
That's right -- provide the players with that little extra voice in their head just as they are about to give up that says every win denies boston a better pick.  Mouths shut! -- don't give them even the slightest reason to persevere.

TP to both of you guys. I completely agree.

Us mocking them and reveling in their misfortune, while admittedly enjoyable sometimes, lacks class, and coupled with threads like the over-under on Robin Lopez' foot injury could be some really bad juju.

Kind of like how the Garden crowd's "conditional first rounder" chant made that 18  point lead over the Mavs disappear the other night.  Dwight Powell was wicked motivated...   ;D

Yup

Yup.  Motivates the Nets.  Bad Juju.  All of that.  Overly GMMMY too. It'll be tiring to listen to that stuff for the next 3 years.  The Celtics have had a lot of misfortune.  Time to just enjoy some fortune without the triumphalism.

To be fair, a Robin Lopez foot injury probably is just going to bum Brook out for a minute, so it's an awfully small jinx on the Nets.   :P

Hey, foul, I'm a city boy. When I start talking about brooks and robins and all that nature stuff, I'm out of my element and consequently get confused.

Good catch.

EDIT: Was going to fix it, but left it as is for its comedic value.

GMMMY?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Forget about the fans. The players care more about the results.

Now we just need the Celts to step on their throats and win by 20 again. This time on their court.

In reality the Nets players, similarly to the Celtics players, couldn't give a sh$% about draft picks.
It will likely never enter their mind for a second.

1) And you know this, how?
2) Nets players probably care about the future of the organization.  No 1st round draft picks for 3 years means a bleak future.
3) They know when they are being mocked.  C's fans chanting "Brooklyn Draft Picks" is basically saying ... "You guys suck and will be a bottom team".  It's a direct insult to their pride as men, and will only motivate them to try reach down and try to win meaningless games, when they otherwise might just give up.

You may be correct, but BBall players are human and it's human for thoughts to drive emotion and for emotion to drive action.  If on the verge of reacting to "what's the use?" thinking, Lopez becomes energized by the thought of cocky C's fans it could make a difference.  Probably not... but no sense waking dormant energizing thoughts. I'm not a big rub salt in the wound trash-talk fan anyway.

Well the first pick may just turn out to be a dud with James Young.  ......so I'm not counting my chickens yet.

I would not mock them either , that's childish ......6 th grader stuff .

Celtics could easy wind up with three nothing players .....that's how the draft is ......a huge gamble

See Embiid.

Right now the lowly Doc pick of Hunter blows away the Net pick of Young.

ainge is a good talent evaluator, so i don't think we have much to worry about. we'll be fine. there is risk in any move - we could sign lebron tomorrow and have him suffer a career-ending injury a day later. it's still a good spot to start in, with all our picks odds are great we land some nice players.

and the picks have great value in trades as well.

i agree though we should maintain some humility. as c's fans we've suffered through hard times, losing bias (RIP), lewis (RIP), billups, and joe johnson.

and of course, as others have noted, we don't want the nets to be motivated. just keep beating them soundly, letting them know they have no chance at the playoffs. let them crumble due to lack of hope.
