What do they need to do for the 13th pick? They don't HAVE to make the playoffs for that, right?

Well it's funny.  13th is the second best record of out of the teams that didn't make the playoffs overall in both conferences.  However, the East is so much more stacked this year for once, that if they don't make the 8 seed in the West, the two best non-playoff teams in the East will probably push them to 11th or 12th.  However, if the 13th or 14th team somehow hit the lottery for a top 3 pick, they could push the Minny pick back.  It's super unlikely though if they don't make the playoffs.

Well, look on the bright side.  There's really no chance of the Nets even having the 10th or 11th pick even in a worst case type scenario!

Exactly. With our luck Minny finishes 9th in the west but lands somewhere stupid like 10th in the lottery

All true about the shift in power to the east, but I think this actually helps our pick.  Minny may stay in the playoff hunt throughout the year rather than pack it in.  Maybe make a team strengthening move at deadline to promote a playoff push rather than a tanking sell of vets.  Minny is only 1 game from the 8th seed. KG can taste his last shot at the playoffs.
