On the getting rid of James Young Debate:
When we drafted Young as the second youngest player in the draft the team was obviously doing it with an eye towards the long term. He is currently the youngest player on our team in his second year.
When your project shows no improvement for 2-3 years, it's time to cut your losses.
Agreed. Fortunate that he's only been on the team for a little over 1, then.
Oh, I didn't mean they'd cut him right away. In fact, they just exercised his option for 2016-17. But when you're getting beat by two rookies, your future isn't looking rosy. And I think he's certainly trade bait at this point.
Sure, I agree if he hasn't shown any progress by the end of next season (2016-2017) it might be time to cut bait.
You can look at him getting passed on the depth chart by Rozier and Hunter in two ways. 1. He is getting passed by rookies. 2. He is getting passed by older players that have presumably been playing longer.
I think his defense has improved and will continue to improve through next year. The next improvements I look for him to make is on his handle (so he can create for himself instead of relying on spot up opportunities) and his understanding on how to rotate along the 3 point line so he can free himself for a shot off of others penetration.
