I'm not sure there is a GM in the league who seriously thinks the celtics will cut anyone other than Fred Perry.

So you just wait until he is waived, and you claim him of waivers no? Isn't that the only possible scenario?

Doesn't this depend on:

— how badly your team wants the player;
— how badly you estimate other teams want the player;
— where your team picks in the waiver process.

It is common in MLB for teams to claim and trade for players they "might have gotten" for free. A bird in the hand, and all that.

Is there any local reporter who is good at reporting inside info? Is there a local Woj?

Would Mannix count as local? He writes for SI but is very dialed into the C's (and is my favorite studio analyst on game broadcasts).
