Just throwing out a guess at the Cs healthy rotation this season. Barring a trade im figuring P Jones is cut. Sully and Jerebko will be the odd men out and Rozier, Mickey and Young will all spend time in the D-League.

Ultimately I think we will see Sully and Young both being moved this year. If/when this happens Jerebko will fit nicely into the utility role where he can fill in 3-5 in case of injury and Rozier will be the 3rd string 1-2/

Start

Smart   30min (18PG,12SG)
AB        32min
Turner  24min
Lee       25min
Zeller    21min

Bench

IT            30min
Hunter      4min
Crowder 24min
KO          25min
Amir        25min

This rotation is gives AB,IT,Crowder and Zeller the same min they played in the playoffs last year. Turner gets 5 less mpg, Smart 8mpg more. The big man rotation sees the biggest change with Sully being the big loser in all of this.

1. Less Turner, more Crowder. If he is moved, more time for Jerebko . He fits this system well enough to get minutes.

2. Even if Sully is out KO should not get the same minutes as Lee and/or Johnson.

3. Hunter has earned more than 4mpg at least until he starts shooting under 30% for a long stretch.

Smart   30min (18PG,12SG)
AB        30min
Crowder 28min
Lee       28min
Zeller    20min

Bench

IT            30min
Hunter      6min
Turner  16min, Jerebko 6min
KO          18min
Amir        28min
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Just talked about this on my latest show and made it our question of the week with the audience.  I think you nailed it.  I kinda think Olynyk and Jerebko will split it until one clearly supplants the other but yes, I think the rotation is set.  Hunter will have a random game here and there but he's kind of on the outs looking in, Sullinger injury insurance, Jones cut, Mickey+Rozier Maine, done.

I'm watching that small forward spot and seeing who starts but considering how well the team began to play last year when Crowder was 2nd unit full time - I see no reason why Brad changes that up.

I think the only way Turner plays less then 25mpg is Smart makes his ball handling unnecessary, so I hope you are right. I also agree Hunter will deserve more PT but I just don't see that happening while everyone is healthy. KO I bumped his minutes up because Im hoping he makes the next step as a player this year. Last season he averaged 22mpg and 10ppg. I hoping to see 25mpg and 12 ppg. I really like the prospects of an IT + Amir + KO 2nd team combination.

I agree I think the SF comes down to fit with the PG. Turner starts because he currently is the better fit with Smart and Crowder is the better fit with IT. If Smart takes the next step in his development as a PG then Turners days may be numbered.

Crowder's energy is perfect for the second unit.  He helped change a lot of games last year, I thought.

This is a pretty good framework, but I imagine it won't be a static thing with several players exchanging minutes given the particular matchups, injuries, etc.

A couple things:
1) AB should definitely not be leading the team in minutes, in my opinion. I think he should get 25-28 minutes, that way he can focus on the defensive end and still have the energy to hit shots when need be. I think his extra minutes should go to Hunter, who will probably average around 10-12 minutes a game this season.
2) I think Crowder starts with Lee and Smart. Smart has shown he can initiate the offense enough to be a starter without Turner, especially with Lee to help him out. I *hope* Turner ends up getting squeezed out of the rotation in favor of Crowder and JJ at the 3. JJ is a much better fit in the 2nd unit with IT than Turner.
3) I think Zeller and KO should average around 20 minutes a game, and the extra minutes should go to Lee and Amir. Also, I still am intrigued by the Amir/Lee starting lineup, so I'd like to see the rotation go like this in terms of substitutions: Amir/Lee, Amir/KO, KO/Zeller, Zeller/Lee.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
One thing, it seems to be consensus in this thread that Sully isn't going to get any minutes and I just don't think that is the case. Obviously we have a minutes crunch in the front court and injuries will likely open up minutes for guys like Sully and JJ, but I have to believe that Sully will at least be in the 10-15 minutes range, likely taking time from Zeller and KO...at least when everybody is healthy.

He may be a chub-chub, but he is still quite talented. He will find his way into the rotation somehow (unless he is traded).

I think it will be

Smart
Bradley
Turner
Lee
Zeller

Isaiah
Crowder
Olynyk
Amir

With one of Jerebko, Sully and even RJ getting playing time here and there depending on the game as the 10th man. Plus like Brad Stevens said players get hurt, sick, tired etc so everyone will get playing time.

Hopefully at some point we can clean up the rotation by making a trade or two.

Can they get rid of Turner?

Sure.  But why ?  He played extremely well as a Celtic in this system last year.

Turner was pretty good last year and I definitely wouldn't dump him. But if we could get something for him or include him in a trade to get something I would do it. But I wouldn't trade him for nothing

I agree completely. Amir and Lee should get the bulk of the minutes unless Olynyk happns to be on that night. Also agree that RJ should get 10-12 minutes.
