There are a lot of teams out there that could only benefit from losing as their early season hopes fade away... It's not looking good for our pick unless Brooklyn deals Lopez.

I'd be really upset if Minnesota, New Orleans, or LA get the first pick. LA for obvious reasons, but Minnesota and New Orleans already got their first overall pick superstar. There really should be a rule against repeat lottery winning, call it the "Cleveland Rule."

If the Celtics didn't get it I wouldn't mind Phoenix winning.

The Nets still stink. They may play hard, but they severely lack talent.

If they lose tomorrow night they'll officially be on pace for 22 wins. Awful team.

In theory yes, but unfortunately no - since they play the 76ers 3 more times and have a couple more against Denver & the Suns... it's looking like they will win 25-27 unless they lose like the next 10 or have a big injury...

I think the Nets will lose 1 or 2 games to the Sixers.

I don't think so... but I hope you're right!!! Let's say the Nets are 16-44 entering March... they have: @LAL, @DEN, @MIN, @TOR, @PHI, VS MIL, VS PHI...... they could easily go 4-3 or at worst 3-4 during that stretch (unless there is a major injury before then)... meaning 20-47 or 19-48... then it will be near the end of the season and other teams will be resting players for the playoffs, especially against a bad team like that... which could get them to 25-27 wins... which would be awful for us. Argh this is stressful haha

If they hold steady, they'll end with 22 wins. That was good for the fifth worst record last year, though there aren't as many blatantly tanking teams this year. If they end with 22 wins, I say that's probably the third or fourth worst record in the league.

I'm really starting to worry about Minnesota, though. I thought having the vets coupled with great young talent would at least keep them at arm's length from Brooklyn, but they've been bad lately. Phoenix worries me, too, but not as much a Minnesota. I honestly think those are the only two we really have to worry about passing Brooklyn in the standings.
Really no reason to be worried about Minnesota. Pek is healthy, and Martin just started playing again because they can't trade him. Not to mention Rubio, Wiggins and Towns. No way they finish with a worse record than Brooklyn.
We absolutely need to worry about Minnesota.  They are currently only one game better than the Nets right now, and are 4-20 since Dec. 1 with all the players you just mentioned (except for Pek, their 3rd string center). They are a young team with a bad coach and they still have no idea how to win games. Nor do they have incentive to get good at it yet. I'd say it is more of a 50/50 chance the Nets finish worse than Minnesota as presently constituted.

We need them to beat either PHX or NO in their next 2 because then it appears they have 5 straight losses in the schedule.

Yes, Phoenix and Minnesota are the two we definitely have to worry about. On the flip side, Phili and the Lakers are playing better, and I can honestly see both of them passing Brooklyn by the end of the season. Its going to be tight at the bottom, I can see the Nets land anywhere from 1-6.
Any of you so confident you want to bet TPs then?
CB Mock Deadline - Minnesota Timberwolves
Kemba Walker / Tyus Jones / Aaron Brooks
Jimmy Butler / Jamal Crawford / Treveon Graham
Rodney Hood / Nic Batum / Marcus Georges Hunt
Taj Gibson / Nemanja Bjelica / Jonas Jerebko
KAT / Derrick Favors / Cole Aldrich
Picks - 2018 CHA 1st (Lotto protected), none out

Anyone hear any updates on Bargs? Not exactly an all-star, but he's all they've got after Lopez.

Phoenix at Minny today, someone has to win there.  Rooting for Minny since they only have 12 wins.

Nice to see Minny win, but wow the Suns are sooo bad! So is Minny. I can see the Nets finishing 6th worst due to these two pathetic teams ugh.

6th? The Nets will have to go on a winning streak for that to happen.

There's no reason at all that that's true. They are up 2 games on those teams - if they simply went, 5-5 during any 10 game stretch, for example, then if either of those teams went 2-8 then boom, they leapfrog the Nets.

opposite is also true where they go 5-5 and Nets go 2-8 then the gap widens.

So how are the Nets going to go 5-5. Who will step up?

They won't in their next 10 games, which is why I said any 10 game stretch. Here's a 13 game stretch that they could go 6-7 or 7-6, though:

Fri, Feb 5   vs Sacramento
Sat, Feb 6 @Philadelphia
Mon, Feb 8 vs Denver
Wed, Feb 10 vs Memphis
Fri, Feb 19 vs NY Knicks
Sun, Feb 21 vs Charlotte
Tue, Feb 23 @ Portland
Thu, Feb 25 @ Phoenix
Sat, Feb 27 @ Utah
Mon, Feb 29 @ Los Angeles
Tue, Mar 1 @ Los Angeles
Fri, Mar 4   @ Denver
Sat, Mar 5 @ Minnesota

although the Net's might not be bottom 3 team, I think we can still get a good pick from them. Even if they don't finish bottom 3, it's not the end of the world. They still have a shot to get a top 3 pick despite their record. I think overall, by the end of the year, the Nets will suck enough for us to get a good pick, top 5 imo.

What is it with all his The Nets could go 5 and five crap. Think positive!

Jarret Jack injury is already murder for them, last game they were forced to play 10 guys, and that's bad news for them because 5 of those guys are really bad players.

And can't be overstated how muck Jacks injury hurts them, they were playing their best five players major minutes all year.

Now two if them are out for the year, Jack and Hollis Jefferson. It's looking bad I mean great for them.

Hollis-Jefferson may be back soon, and Chris McCullough may make his NBA debut soon. That kid has lottery level talent, fell out of the lottery due to his injury. They should just trade Lopez and Young for picks or prospects and go all in on developing their young guys the rest of the season.
