I think that was an attempt at sarcasm but even if there is a grain of truth there, that kind of sarcastic response is not surprising given the way the OP posed the question. As someone said much earlier, no one on this roster NEEDS to go. It all depends upon the circumstances. It is much better to ask, who on roster would you give up in a certain kind of trade for either a certain player or type of player?

No one on the roster NEEDS to go. The only decision that NEEDS to get done before opening night is to bring the roster down to 15.

Sorry if I sound like I'm being too literal, but words are important, especially on a blog. In my line of work, I deal with the written words on paper and spoken word almost exclusively (as opposed to tangible things and actions) so maybe that makes me sensitive to it.

I think there is a need for one player to go at some point just to get the roster down to 15 but I suspect there will be more roster turnover than that before the season starts.

If it was me, I would be trying to move Evan Turner during the preseason.  I think he is a good enough player to be of value to a contending team (which I do not consider the Celtics to be).  He is just on the wrong point of his career arc to be of real value to the rebuilding Celtics.  I loved the Otto Porter trade talk.  I think there could be a trade there that could work for both teams.

Once the season starts, I would be looking to move David Lee.  Like Turner, I think Lee will prove good enough to be a serviceable player off the bench for a good team but even more than Turner, just not a good fit for the Celtics in terms of career arc.  Lee requires a lot of money coming back which makes a trade hard so we will see.

As for the rest of the team, just about everyone else could potentially be in play for the right trade

As down as I am on Sully, I want to see if a Slim Sully can prove me wrong.  ET, I think is a proven commodity, he is neither bad nor a star.  I do not think we make a move.   I doubt Ainge would go for Morris.

I don't know that ET can go until Smart proves himself as the ball handler we need to support IT. We don't have anybody new and ready to go to do the job ET did (and did well) last season.

I have been an AB fan since he arrived at the Celtics and he has done some great work. He has flaws and maybe, when it comes to winning championships, the flaws are more key than his strengths. I am a bit 50/50 on this one.

KO is also a tricky one in that maybe you get more while he is still showing the potential to improve. If he has reached his potential and has a similar season he doesn't gain value but could lose some appeal. Though he probably attracts interest as he is anyway - he does some very good things.

Sully I want to see trim and see if he can be the player we all want him to be before we let him mature somewhere else.

I think a good definition of depth is how many guys do you have that could be on an 8 man playoff rotation(on any team.) We probably do have that just barely. It;s just about picking which guys to stick with so that they can help out on our next title run. Smart, IT, Crowder, Zeller and maybe some of the new guys. I'm not really down on KO or Sully but they need to prove something to me. We probabyl need one more year of ET unless Smart shows he can run the 1.
