I don't understand why people think a 23 or a 24 year old is going to magically get much better - particularly where the issues that Olynyk and Sullinger face are due to a lack of athleticism. I'm sure they're great guys - but I can see that they are not going to be top flight players in the NBA, ever.

Surely, every GM in the NBA can also see that. So I do not understand why everyone is suggesting that they are "trade-able assets." You essentially have two not particularly athletic power forwards (one under-sized, one with poor lateral quickness) who are not especially good defenders. There is certainly room for them in the league - but they are hardly a commodity.

The way the league is going, you need excellence from several positions to have a chance. Every team that has one the championship in the last ten years has had three bona-fide all stars. That leaves room for two middling starters. Teams are simply not prioritizing players like Olynyk and Sully. Sorry. And I agree - they are not going to become all stars this year, or next year - or at any point in their careers. Neither will Jonas Jerebko, or Amir Johnson. Smart has a chance. Perhaps Rozier has a chance.

Right on.. After about 2 years you really get a good idea if a player can reach star level.. I'll give an extra year to a 19 year old but rarely ever a player shines in a new system .. that a 1% rate... KO and Sully are fine role players, and every team knows that.. its why a significant trade hasnt been made..

sully i dont think really needs to get "better" but instead get "smarter" he has all the physical tools and his stats dont lie, he was arguably more valuable than IT in the playoffs. he just needs to get in shape and show he can play full minutes and he'll probably avg 18-20 pts and 10 reb. lee is only one year removed from being a 18 and 10 guy i see him playing to cause a lot of mismatches

Maybe because almost all 23 and 24 year olds get better?

Olynyk's problem is consistency and aggressiveness.

Sully issue: not being in top shape , shooting the three too much(it does not matter if the coaches give you the green light)

KO issue: not taking the shot when he should.  Overhelping on Defense, adding more strength

None of these guys are big time athletes. But could be at least as good as a David West. Im optimistic they will both  breakout for next season.

  I don't think either will be stars either, but this team needs more valuable asstets. If Olynik developes his defense even a bit more he still would have more value than almost everyone on this team. I'm sure Lee and Amir will be better players, but my gripe is picking these two up just increases the likelihood that we stay right in the middle. Also to be fair guys like Milsap and ibaka really didn't come into their wn till their mid twenties, a lot of big men come into the league Needing to work on one side of their game a lot more than the other.

Well for bigs I agree it is 25 when they start being good unless it's a phenom player type. Thing with Sully and KO is they seem to have skill and IQ but no fight and conditioning issues. It makes people believe time is what they need.
