Charlotte did not extend him a qualifying offer, so he's unrestricted.  Could be a cheap option at center if nothing else works out.

Seem's like a reasonable risk for the right price.  At very least he could be a serviceable back up.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
He is WCS part 2, afterall  ;D

As a fallback option, I see no reason not to sign him. Give him a chance to make a real defensive name for himself.

There are plenty of starting-caliber centers on the free agent market.  Signing Joel Anthony 2.0 to a short, tradeable contract that is reasonable for a back-up would be a tolerable Plan C.

This is awesome news.   I love Biyombo.  I would love to have him in Boston.

If we've learned anything this Summer... it's that Charlotte is out of their freakin mind.

My only concern with Biyombo is that we'd have to overpay him a bit to prevent the Hornets from matching.    Now, I have to assume we can snatch up Biyombo for a reasonable 3-5 mil per year.   Great buy low candidate.  Do it!

Our offseason for me has 4 objectives ordered in importance.
1. Find a star
2. Don't lose flexibility
3. (Ties in with 2) don't overpay
4. Increase overall talent profile/ take chances(biyombo TRob etc)

If we can add him without sacrificing 1,2, and 3 then I'm on board

I generally agree with a lot of this. Evan Turner costs like 2 mill per for 2 years. Maybe we can do something like that. At least if other options fall through

I agree.  He's fourth on my list behind signing Monroe, trading for Hibbert, and signing Koufos.  After Biyombo, my preference would be to make a run at signing Alexis Ajinca.

Man, that list escalates quickly.

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Comes up in every Biyombo thread...

7'7" wingspan and a 9'3" standing reach...

He's a freak:

I'm not going to rehash all the stuff I've said about Biyombo in previous threads... just to recap:

-Hornets had their best stretch of the season with MKG and Biyombo getting heavy minutes in the starting lineup... their two best defensive players

-His defensive rating of 99 would have put him in the top 10 with qualified minutes

-His per-36 minutes have consistently been solid:  8.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 55% shooting last year

-He started 21 games for the Hornets last year and averaged 27 minutes 6.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.8 blocks with 55% shooting and 63% from the line

-He's still allegedly only 22 years old... a year older than Willie Cauley Stein.  WCS's third year college stats were arguably worse than Biyombo's stats as a starter in the NBA this year.

-There's a fair chance he's not done developing.

-The Hornets are backwards hillbillie organization that turns down 6 first round picks to move from #9 to #16... only to take Frank Kaminsky... They run their offense through a chucker who shoots 38% and 30% from three.   The have one of the best defensive players in the entire league, MKG, and yet they limit him to 27 minutes per night.   They are, in my opinion, one of the two most mismanaged organizations in the league (the other being the Kings).  Take what happens there with a grain of salt...

I'm fully on board with signing Biyombo.  Give the kid a shot in a functional system with a competent coach.

Do your research!!!

http://thepaintedarea.blogspot.com/2011/06/2011-international-draft-prospect.html

There are absolutely no questions about Biyombo's physical skills: 9-4 standing reach, 7-6 wingspan and 245 lbs. of chiseled muscle.

I think he actually has a 9-4 standing reach now.
