Honest question here. I'm interested in the dynamics of deal making.

Do you guys think there are gentlemen's agreements that are already in place right now, with certain conditions and variables?

For example: Celtics will trade 16 and Sully to Hornets for 9 on draft day IF Cauley-Stein is available UNLESS Karl Towns is still available (the former a requirement imposed by the C's, the latter by the Hornets)?

(not looking for comments on the merits of the example)

For what I have read, usually this kind of deal is in place and both GM stay on the phone, until the pick is done or trade cancel.

I think that the phone calls are being made, but nothing is getting to the handshake point until much closer to draft night.

I don't think there are specifics given but I'm sure Ainge has contacted the Charlotte GM or Jordan and said, something like would you be interested in moving back from 9 and if so what would it take.

The answer would probably be something like, Sully, 16, 28 and two future 1's. 

Then they haggle back and forth and come to a conclusion of, if Sac is interested in moving down, Boston is interested in moving up, and Sully and 16 would do it.

Now on draft night, lets say WCS drops that far which isn't going to happen.  Danny calls up Jordan or the GM and says, you still looking to move back?  Sac says yes or no depending on who is available.  Ainge says Sully and 16 like we talked about?  Sac says, well WCS is here still so we need more than that now.  Ainge says yes or no but that is how I am 99% sure it works.

From the trade between Spurs and Indiana, they had an agreement if a certain player is still available. They never mentioned the name of the player. Indiana agree to have Hill for the pick and they stay on the phone until the player was still available. They agree and Spurs ask Indiana to pick Leonard for them.

I would try to avoid that with conditions and variables, without giving up too much intel on your own big board...
