Quote
A darkhorse location for Rajon Rondo in free agency is Sacramento, where the Kings are entering a pivotal year in their franchise and could use a bona fide point guard. Darren Collison, coming off hip surgery, is the team’s scheduled starter for next season. Rondo, who didn’t appear interested in going to the Kings a few years ago, could use the club as a springboard to perhaps a larger contract if he signs a one-year deal. Rondo is also close friends with Kings forward Rudy Gay.

Interesting. How would Karl vs Cousins vs Rondo play out? I wonder how this will impact the West, and more specifically the Mavs, since we have their pick (1-7 protected) next season.

Can we trade for Sacramento's 2016 1st round pick, unprotected?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I know we worked out a beneficial trade with Rondo, but it will kind-of bug me if he goes there now after [apparently] squawking about not wanting to play for the Kings. Our package could have been so much better.

Still, he needs to find a place that he can resurrect his career and I will be happy for him if he can do that (as long as it's not with the Lakers).

What was the proposed trade for Rondo with the Kings? I seem not to recall.

This was one of them

It started at two picks, but then was updated to one (but likely what would have been the #8 last year). Looking back, it seems pretty laughable.

Hey, at least we got IT!

At one time I remember it was going to be Mcelmore and the 2015 pick, which would have given us numbers 6 and 8 in last year's draft and Mcelmore. I'd also be a little ticked if we missed that package and Rondo goes there anyways. I know things have changed, but still.

Larbrd must be really ticked - he's been riding the McLemore train since well before he drastically improved this year. Throw in #8 (hopefully we wouldn't have taken Stauskas) and IT and those are three really good assets.

Now we are left hoping that the Mavs suck next year, that the Wolves can essentially be top 10 in the west (so that we get a first instead of two 2nds), and that Crowder can make the leap. While these are all plausible, they are far less 'guaranteed' than what the Kings were [apparently] offering.

I don't see Rondo as a fit for what George Karl is trying to run in Sacramento, am I missing something?

That would have been amazing, the first rounder we got from Dallas might take forever to cash in. Hopefully Dallas is mediocre next season.

It's top 7 protected, so it's pretty likely we get it next season unless they're extremely awful.

Will he refuse to play home games on his birthday so he can celebrate in LA?
